Episode 81 - Be Led By Spirit Not The Ego
This episode of the stoic – the invincible soul podcast is inspired by Wayne Dyer’s book, the power of intention.
There is something within us which is our spirit or our soul. That spirit is connected to something bigger than ourselves. It is connected to that which caused us to be as well as everything that is in this vast universe. We are as a result of that thing expanding and expressing itself. Some people call that thing God, others call it spirit, some call it source or the universe and doctor wayne dyer, who was the author of the book, the power of intention called it intention. He described it as a field of energy that is expressing itself in all that it creates. So if source, intention, God or the universe is the whole, then we are a piece of that whole.
And as humans, we are also given a tool to enable us to function as we were intended to function and this tool is the mind. Our minds are a powerful tool. With the mind we are able to think, we are able to store information, we are able to project into the future and we are able to function in our community, and carry out the purpose for which we were created. But what the mind also does is that it forms an identity for itself as a by product of it functioning. This identity is based on the job it does, the things that it perceives as it’s accomplishments, and the type of reception it receives around it. It puts people into roles and categories, and it has expectations from people based on the roles that it places them into. And when these expectations are not met, it holds onto feelings of anger, annymosity, hatred, revenge etc. And in cases where the expectations are met, its shows love, kindness etc. But that identity perceives and acts towards the world based on the reception it receives.
This identity is the ego.
And the problem is that, we falsely believe this identity to be who we are. But fundamentally that is not who are. We are the spirit the resides within us. we share the same DNA as the spirit which caused us to be. And our true characteristics are the characteristics of spirit. At our core, we are kind, we exist in abundance, we are loving, we are compassionate, we are creative, and we are generous. When we separate ourselves from spirit and allow the mind to lead us, that is when we exist and operate from a place of lack, a place of hatered or a place of anger because these types of emotions are incompatible with who spirit is. And our primary job in life is to be connected to spirit all the times.

Izzy talks from her heart and doesn’t seem to be in this for subscribers and support (not that there is anything particularly wrong with that). I feel she does this for the sole purpose of helping people. I love that she recognizes a higher power and advocates prayer as well without forcing religious opinion. Listening to her discover and relate stoic philosophy in a conversational way is a joy. Also, this seems to be a male dominated topic, so I like the different perspective. Good job!
Great inspirational podcast!
I enjoy listening to this podcast. I feel inspired after each episode.
