Distracted by Distraction: Finding Your Way Back to Creativity

Let us know what you enjoy about the show! Sometimes the hardest part of creating isn't the work itself—it's everything that happens before we begin. In this episode, I share an unedited piece of stream-of-consciousness writing that I never intended to publish. It's an honest glimpse into creative procrastination, distraction, self-doubt, and the quiet moment when something begins to shift. If you've ever found yourself organizing your desk, answering emails, making one more cup of coffee, or doing almost anything except the thing you most want to do, this episode is for you. Without offering easy answers or productivity hacks, I simply invite you into the experience of returning to the page—and discovering what happens when you stay with it just a little longer. In this episode:  Creative procrastination and why beginning can feel so difficult  The surprising ways distraction disguises itself as productivity  A real-time stream of consciousness about writing, self-doubt, and flow  Trusting the creative process without forcing it  Why showing up may be more important than getting it "right" If this episode resonates with you, please subscribe, leave a review, and share it with someone who might need a gentle reminder that creativity doesn't require perfect conditions—it simply asks us to begin. Drifting Into Rest: A Full-Body Scan for Deep Relaxation

Let us know what you enjoy about the show! Tonight’s meditation is an invitation to slow down and gently transition from wakefulness into rest. We begin by settling into the space where you’ll sleep—tending to the small external details that help your body and nervous system feel safe and uninterrupted. From there, we turn inward, using breath and awareness to soften mental activity and release the day. This guided practice moves through a slow, full-body scan, inviting curiosity rather than effort. Sensations are noticed without judgment—pressure, warmth, heaviness, vibration, or even the absence of sensation. There is nothing to fix and nothing to force. You may find yourself drifting in and out of awareness, or even falling asleep before the meditation ends. That’s not a mistake—it’s part of the design. This practice meets you exactly where you are and supports your body’s natural intelligence for rest. As we close, you’re guided into a sense of energetic ease and spaciousness, reminding you that this state of relaxation is something you can return to anytime. ✨ Best enjoyed lying down in bed ✨ Safe to fall asleep during ✨ Perfect for winding down at the end of the day Sweet dreams. 🌙 “Yesterday Is but Today’s Memory…”: Wisdom from Khalil Gibran

Let us know what you enjoy about the show! Have you ever considered that our obsession with measuring time might be missing the point entirely? Khalil Gibran's masterpiece "The Prophet" offers us a profound alternative perspective that could transform how we experience each moment of our lives. Today I felt moved to share a beautiful passage from "The Prophet" that speaks to the nature of time itself. Published in 1923, this timeless work continues to offer wisdom that feels startlingly relevant to our rushed modern existence. Gibran challenges our conventional understanding of time as something linear that can be divided, measured, and controlled. Instead, he invites us to recognize the timelessness that dwells within each of us. The passage I read contains some of Gibran's most breathtaking insights: "Yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream," and "that which sings and contemplates in you is still dwelling within the bounds of that first moment which scattered the stars into space." These words remind us that our consciousness participates in something eternal, beyond the constraints of clocks and calendars. When Gibran describes love and time as "undivided and paceless," he offers us a powerful metaphor for understanding our own boundless nature. I hope these words provide a moment of reflection in your day. What would change in your life if you embraced the timelessness Gibran describes? How might you move through your days differently? Take a moment to contemplate this wisdom, and perhaps you too will find yourself inspired to "let today embrace the past with remembrance and the future with longing." Remember to subscribe for more moments of reflection and inspiration that help us all live more fully in the present moment. If you are enjoying the show please subscribe, share and review! Guided Visualization: Transforming Turbulence into Tranquility

Let us know what you enjoy about the show! Can you imagine turning your deepest frustrations and grief into a source of peace and strength? This episode takes you on a transformative journey through the power of visualization meditation. First, we guide you through a stormy lake, using the energy from your pent-up emotions as a force to paddle against the current. As you confront and move through these turbulent waters, the scene gradually shifts to a serene environment, symbolizing the shift from chaos to tranquility. This process helps us understand that our feelings, while valid, do not define who we are, and we can trust the natural flow of life to carry us to a place of serenity and comfort. Next, feel the exhilaration of windsurfing with our guided wind visualization meditation. Picture yourself turning a simple piece of cloth into a sail, catching the wind, and gliding freely across the water. This exercise reconnects your mind, body, and spirit, transforming negative energy into pure joy. The mantra, "my breath is my anchor, the wind my gondolier," serves as a reminder that you can return to this state of relaxation and mindfulness anytime. Concluding with a countdown and a stretch, you'll emerge from this episode feeling open, relaxed, and ready to embrace the natural flow of life. Join us for this unique and liberating experience. When Passion Turns to Pressure

Let us know what you enjoy about the show! Ever felt like you're pushing a boulder uphill trying to help someone who just won't budge? This powerful coaching session tackles the exhausting cycle of trying too hard to create change in others when they're not ready to receive it. We explore the fascinating shift from operating out of obligation ("I have to do this work") to approaching your passion with a sense of privilege ("I get to do this work"). The coach acknowledges their tendency toward intensity and overwhelming others with information, leading to the counterproductive response of resistance and shutdown. Through thoughtful dialogue, we uncover how language shapes receptivity. When we approach others with empowering rather than frightening rhetoric, we create openings instead of resistance. The breakthrough moment comes when the coach realizes that offering "a little bit of information" creates more excitement and opportunity than overwhelming people with everything they "need" to know. The conversation beautifully illustrates how our helping instincts can sometimes sabotage our effectiveness. By shifting energy from pushing to inviting, from overwhelming to empowering, the coach discovers a path to sustainability and greater impact. This session highlights the delicate art of helping others change - not through force of will, but through connection to values and the excitement of possibility. Whether you're a coach, parent, teacher, or anyone trying to influence positive change, this episode offers practical wisdom on how to approach your important work with less frustration and more effectiveness. Try shifting your language from "they need to know" to "they get to discover" and watch what happens! If you are enjoying the show please subscribe, share and review! Ross Baum & Angelica Chéri: Trust, Collaboration & the Road to Broadway

Let us know what you enjoy about the show! Ross Baum & Angelica Chéri on Trust, Collaboration & the Road to Broadway What does it take to stay connected to yourself while building a dream over more than a decade? In this inspiring and deeply human conversation, I sit down with Broadway-bound collaborators Ross Baum and Angelica Chéri, creators of WANTED, the acclaimed new musical opening this fall at the James Earl Jones Theatre. Together, Ross and Angelica reflect on their 12-year creative partnership, from meeting as graduate students at NYU to bringing an original musical to Broadway. We explore the trust, resilience, leadership, and presence required to sustain both a creative vision and a meaningful collaboration over time. Along the way, we discuss the emotional realities behind large-scale creative work, navigating uncertainty, staying grounded amid success, letting go of attachment to outcomes, and why the journey itself may be the true destination. This conversation is a powerful reminder that extraordinary work is rarely created alone—and that the most meaningful collaborations often transform us as people as much as they shape the work itself. In this episode, we discuss: • The origin story of WANTED and how Ross and Angelica first found each other creatively • What it takes to sustain a 12-year creative partnership • Trust, communication, and navigating feedback in collaborative work • Staying present while pursuing long-term goals • Creativity, leadership, and co-creation • The role of faith, forgiveness, and resilience in the artistic process • Letting go of control and attachment to outcomes • The emotional realities of the road to Broadway • How collaboration can help us become better versions of ourselves • What younger versions of themselves would think about where they are today Whether you're an artist, entrepreneur, leader, or simply someone pursuing a meaningful dream, this conversation offers wisdom on patience, partnership, and the courage to keep moving forward. 🎭 Learn more about WANTED https://wantedmusical.com/ Connect with Lisa Hopkins: www.wideopenstages.com Subscribe to STOPTIME: Live in the Moment for conversations at the intersection of mindfulness, creativity, leadership, and living fully in the present moment.
