Story@Rose is a Rose-Hulman project dedicated to using the power of story to help people better understand themselves, build empathy for others’ perspectives, and positively influence the world around them. We all have narratives we tell about ourselves – some good, some bad – and college is a key time in people’s lives when they develop these narratives. This podcast will get you thinking about your own narrative as you hear from Rose-Hulman students telling stories about everything from their biggest success or failure to a key mentor in their lives to how they got interested in STEM.

    Those who love us most may be our parents, siblings, family—biological or not.  Those who love us most help us in ways we don’t always understand or appreciate right away.  But their impact on our lives is without question.  Those who love us most know that we can and will achieve what we work towards in one way or another.  We can count on those who love us most to be with us always.

    Mentorship

    A mentor is a “push in the right direction”.  We are all the constructs of those around us who push us to be better versions of ourselves.  Mentors help us see what we perhaps can’t envision about ourselves, for ourselves.  Mentors range from family and friends to teachers and coaches.  This episode highlights two students’ stories of mentors who helped them become who they are today.  These stories are a good reminder to seek to authentically learn from, and give back to, those around us.  As you listen, you may wish to consider who has supported you in doing what you do and in being who you are, today.

    Things don't always go as well as we want them to go. In our first episode of Story@Rose, three Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology students tell their stories of failure.
