    Why Andrew Was More Important Than Most Christians Realize: G Campbell Morgan | Sermon Series

    Who was Andrew the Apostle, and why does his quiet role in the ministry of Jesus Christ matter so much? In this episode of the Straight Bible Sermon Series, we continue through G. Campbell Morgan’s The Great Physician and examine how Jesus dealt personally with Andrew. Although Andrew appears only a handful of times in the New Testament and is frequently identified simply as Simon Peter’s brother, his life reveals the extraordinary influence of a faithful disciple who was willing to remain out of the spotlight. Beginning with John 1, this Bible study explores Andrew’s journey from being a disciple of John the Baptist to becoming one of the first followers of Jesus. When John declared, “Behold the Lamb of God,” Andrew possessed the spiritual insight and moral courage to follow Christ. Jesus then confronted him with a deeply personal question: “What seek ye?” Andrew responded by asking where Jesus was staying, accepted the invitation to “come and see,” and spent the day with Him. That encounter produced a life-changing conviction: “We have found the Messiah.” Andrew immediately found his brother Simon and brought him to Jesus. Peter would later become one of the most prominent apostles, preach at Pentecost, and see three thousand people enter the Kingdom of God—but Andrew was the quiet disciple who first led him to Christ. The episode also examines Andrew’s venturesome faith during the feeding of the five thousand, when he brought forward the boy with the loaves and fishes. Later, when Greeks wanted to see Jesus, Philip consulted Andrew, and Andrew helped bring them directly into Christ’s presence. Through Andrew’s story, we learn that the Kingdom of God is not built through fame, status, religious credentials, or personal notoriety. It is built through faithfulness, obedience, surrender, missionary passion, and a willingness to connect people with Jesus.     Uncertain Riches: Abraham Refused the King of Sodom | Sermon on the Mount : Part 26

    Can a Christian possess wealth without being possessed by it? In Sermon on the Mount Part 26, Straight Bible continues through Matthew 6:19–24 and examines Jesus’ warning: “You cannot serve God and mammon.” The study begins in Genesis 14 with Abram’s rescue of Lot and his encounter with two kings offering two very different paths. Melchizedek, the mysterious king of Salem and priest of God Most High, brings bread, wine, and a heavenly blessing. The King of Sodom offers Abram earthly riches. Although Abram had legitimately recovered the spoils of war, he refuses to keep anything belonging to Sodom so no man could claim, “I made Abram rich.” What does Abraham’s decision teach us about uncertain riches, spiritual inheritance, generosity, and storing treasure in heaven? The discussion then moves to 2 Kings 5 and the healing of Naaman. Elisha refuses Naaman’s silver, gold, and clothing, but Gehazi secretly pursues the reward. His choice reveals how quickly the love of money can produce deception, greed, and spiritual destruction. In 1 Kings 18, Elijah confronts Israel with another divided-loyalty question: If the Lord is God, follow Him—but if Baal, follow him. This confrontation reveals a powerful connection between serving Baal in the Old Testament and serving mammon in the New Testament. The hosts also examine Simon the sorcerer attempting to purchase the gift of God in Acts 8, Ananias and Sapphira lying about money in Acts 5, and Jesus’ parable of the unjust steward in Luke 16.     Psalm 22 Predicted the Crucifixion of Jesus | Hebrews w/ Otis Fowler: Part 7

    Why did Jesus Christ have to become fully human, suffer temptation, and die on the cross? In Hebrews Part 7, special guest Otis Fowler joins Straight Bible for an in-depth study of Hebrews 2:12–18 and its powerful connections to Psalm 22. The study begins by reviewing the opening chapters of Hebrews, where Jesus is revealed as greater than the angels, the perfect source of salvation, and the One who restores humanity’s intended position under God. The discussion then examines how Jesus sanctifies believers and is “not ashamed to call them brethren.” Psalm 22 provides the prophetic foundation for much of the episode. Written centuries before the crucifixion, the psalm describes Christ’s suffering, rejection, pierced hands and feet, divided garments, and apparent abandonment. Its second half points beyond the cross to the resurrection, ascension, worldwide proclamation of the gospel, and future generations declaring what God has accomplished. Hebrews 2 explains that Jesus shared in flesh and blood so that through death He could render powerless the devil, who held the power of death, and release those enslaved by the fear of death. Because Christ suffered and faced temptation, He is able to help believers in their own temptations. He became a merciful and faithful High Priest who made propitiation for the sins of His people.
