    So, you’ve graduated from university, you’ve worn your cap and gown and now it’s time to step out in to the working world and chase your first job. If you are anything like I was you might be feeling a mix of apprehension and excitement, hopeful for what the future might bring, and keen to leave your mark on the world. Some of the advice that circulates within career circles pushes graduates to take any job they can find so they can secure either a graduate scheme or an internship, whether it is something they are interested in or not. With the job market being so incredibly competitive the advice often veers more towards the “take any job you can get hold of” end of the scale. In this content I will tell you why you should take a much more intentional, mature and wise approach to securing your first job, along with some simple tips to know if a position is for you, or not. Now, a quick caveat before we dive in to this piece of content: I understand that some people genuinely have to do this. Whether you are short of cash, or feeling the pressure to secure a job due to responsibilities, I understand.     The unboring student guide to networking!

    Networking is not boring, but people have likely put you off! Here's a practical, no crap guide to networking, that's also not boring! I promise.  85% of jobs are filled through networking. In fact, according to CNBC, 70% of jobs are never published publicly. These jobs are either posted internally or are created specifically for candidates that recruiters meet through networking. According to LinkedIn, 70% of professionals hired in 2016 had a connection at their company, and 80% of professionals consider networking vital to their career success.
