    Alan Miller, Cedars Guest Speaker Gregory Cook, Worship Associate Learn more about her work at http://www.gretchenyanover.com/ Late second temple Judaism poses the question of God's fairness in the Book of Job, a question that is finally answered in Jesus' preaching of the coming Kingdom of God; The Bhagavad Gita presents the Hindu system of (hidden) fairness in the caste system and reincarnation. Is the only path to fairness (justice) by way of similar myths? Alan Miller earned a PhD in comparative religion in 1968 from the University of Chicago. In the 58 years since then he has learned that religions offer many answers to the Big Questions of life, and, although none of them are satisfactory to him, all offer insights into the human condition. He enjoys nothing so much as sharing some of those insights.

Margo Rinehart, Cedars Minister Johanna Munson, Worship Associate Featuring music by pianist Nicholas Colletto and vocalist Moira McGregor At this time of year, Lent, Ramadan, and Passover fill the spring days with opportunities for contemplation, meditation, and even prayer. What can we learn from the great religions about paying attention and bringing our emotional and spiritual growth into action for our communities and common humanity?  Reverend Margo Rinehart serves Cedars by welcoming people from diverse theological and religious backgrounds and spiritual beliefs on their journeys to learn from one another, search for truth, and answer the call of love and justice. Nicholas “Nick” Colletto is a pianist, composer, and teacher who holds degrees in Piano Pedagogy and a Music Composition from Central Washington University, His performance highlights include appearances with the Isolation Big Band in the Tri-Cities and the Legion of Jazz Big Band at the Royal Room in Seattle. Nick’s musical interests reflect his eclectic inspirations, ranging from the virtuosity of Art Tatum and Sullivan Fortner to the creativity of Jimi Hendrix and Chick Corea. Moira McGregor is a wonderful soprano singer who holds a Vocal Performance and Music Education degree from Central Washington University.

Mel Hoover, Cedars Guest Ministers Nancy Philip, Worship Associate Featuring music from Kids in Concert In the present, we can look back and see how the seeds of thoughts and actions — both positive and negative —planted back then are now part of our lives. We might have influenced someone or an event without even knowing it. What kinds of seeds that we plant now would we like to see blossom in the future? Clergy couple Mel Hoover and Rose Edington are co-ministers Emeriti of the UU Congregation in Charleston, West Virginia. Retired from congregational ministry in 2014, they continue their ministries through MelRose Ministries, with a focus on creating Beloved Community that considers the intersections of racism, classism, sexism, and environmental justice. Wishing to be closer to their granddaughter (and her parents) prompted their move to Bellingham in 2020. Kids In Concert (KIC) is a free, four‑day‑a‑week music and youth development program serving 90 students ages 6–18 across North Kitsap County. Founded in partnership with the Suquamish Tribe, it offers high‑quality instruction in strings, percussion, ensembles, and choir while ensuring equitable access—no auditions, no tuition, no prior experience required. KIC nurtures compassion, well-being, and leadership through social‑emotional learning, mentorship, homework help, healthy snacks, and college‑readiness support. With 32 students on the waitlist and rising demand, the program is working to close a funding gap so more young people can experience the healing power of music.     Nate Kremer-Herman, Guest Speaker  Gregory Cook, Worship Associate Artificial intelligence is the latest in a long line of tools that shape how we relate to our world and to each other. As we grapple with how AI is changing us, it is important to ground ourselves in our uniquely human experiences to cultivate closer communities and a healthier planet.  Nate Kremer-Herman teaches computer science at Seattle University. His research work engages with the Artificial Intelligence Alignment Problem to better ensure that AI adheres to our shared social and moral principles. Unsurprisingly, Nate's favorite class to teach is an ethics course for computer science students.

Tessie Mandeville, Carrie Koehnline and Judith Kaftan, Guest Speakers  Su Livingston, Guest Musician Nancy Philip, Worship Associate Our speakers will share a recently rediscovered story, "Grandmother Waits." They'll reflect, as the elders they are now, on its messages of autonomy, depth, creativity, and what it takes to be a healthy, diverse community. Led by Carrie and Judith, who co-wrote the story more than 30 years ago, and woven together with poetry and songs by Tessie, this promises to be an engaging and wonderful service.  Rev. Tessie Mandeville is an affiliated minister at Bellingham Unitarian Fellowship (BUF), a hospital chaplain (ret.), and an Interfaith spiritual director, who lives in Bellingham with her wife, Lisa. Carrie Koehnline is a journal therapist, artist, writer, and frequent worship leader at BUF who lives in Bellingham with her wife, Dominique. Judith Kaftan is a longtime psychotherapist, artist, and writer who has recently retired. She lives in Seattle along with her wife, Marra. Su Livingston is a former educator, worship celebrant at BUF, and a lifelong musician who lives in Bellingham with her husband, John.
