179 episodes

Remember the cartoons you loved as a kid? Do you, like us, remember mid-2000s Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network with a mix of fondness and terror – or, if you don’t, do you want to know what the fuss was about?

Join Mary, David, and Ben as we revisit the cartoons that shaped us in an episode-by-episode deep dive, as well as the Internet fan culture as it was then and is now. How do these nostalgic shows hold up? What do we think of them now, as not kids but sad adults? How has the zeitgeist and Internet following evolved along with us? We set out to answer these questions and also to be incredibly hilarious and physically attractive.

We started in 2017 with Return to the Past: A Code Lyoko Retrospective, which ran from 2017-2019 and makes up the first part of this feed. Second was The Ultimate Reprise, which ran from 2019-2020 and covers Oban: Star Racers. Now we’re on The Avatar Recycle, hot on the heels of Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Netflix debut!

Join us wheresoever you like. Watching along is not necessary - but highly encouraged – and we try to keep spoiler free up to the current episode! Follow us on Twitter at @super_nuclear, or send us your feedback at supernucleargroup@gmail.com!

TAR #30 - He Died As He Lived: Like a Nerd (feat. Jess!)

We've reached the midpoint of season two, and with that, the midpoint of the whole show! This is a good time for us to take a little break from internet radio silliness (more on that in the episode), but first, here's Mary, David, and Jess talking owls and Kongsonas (also in the episode, obviously).

As mentioned above, Super Nuclear Group will be going on hiatus for some time. We will let you know when we return, and in the meantime we will remain active on Twitter and in the Discord. Thank you all so, so much for your support in this, and we hope you continue to enjoy what we've done!

Also note that there is a bit after the ending theme of the episode that was spoilery but too funny not to keep.

TAR #29 - I Was A Twelve Year Old Cop (Bitter Work feat. Quinn and Jess!)

I'm super sorry for the lateness of putting this on the main feed - I hadn't realized I hadn't scheduled it while I was waiting for the summary to come in. Thank you for your patience and look forward to The Library soon!

Welcome to Bitter Work (fun fact: that's what "kung fu" actually means!), an episode that's mostly about Sokka being stuck in a hole and talking to a Digimon, and also some other stuff happens, we guess. With Ben and David both out of commission, Jess and Quinn join Mary to talk about it!

TAR #28 - Toph Demands to See the Manager (The Chase feat. Bfahome!)

TAR #28 - Toph Demands to See the Manager (The Chase feat. Bfahome!)

Ah, the chase: a cartoon tradition. Tom chases Jerry, Sylvester chases Tweety, and in tonight's presentation, the Gaang is chased by a bunch of girls. Which I guess makes this more like the Avatar version of A Hard Day's Night (ask your grandma, zoomer).

Our friend Gabe is here to bring the funny while Ben is away. Join us as we discuss such questions as: do sky bison reproduce by budding? If you poop in the spirit world, do you also poop in real life? And how fast does Iroh need to be going to keep up with Zuko, who is in turn keeping up with a train?

TAR #27 - Ostrich-Horse With No Name (Zuko Alone feat. Quinn!)

Time for Zuko Alone, Avatar's cowboy episode! In lieu of Ben, we're joined once again by Quinn! (And no, we didn't eat Ben when we were all stranded on that raft in the middle of the ocean, no matter what the federales say.) Prepare for advanced Jaden Smith discussion, stinky piles o' poo, and the startling revelation that in the Avatar universe, bacon and eggs come from the same animal.

This episode of The Avatar Recycle contains a content warning for discussion of slavery in video games at 1:15:00.

TAR #26 - TAR #26 - It's Not Just The Rock, It's The Boulder! (The Blind Bandit ft. Dianna!)

It's finally time for the episode everyone and their dog wanted to be on. Wait a minute... is CatDog an Avatar animal? Holy shit, I just thought of that literally right now. Nickelodeon Cinematic Universe confirmed! Anyway, Toph is in this one.

Our friend (and very first fan!) Dianna joins us to talk about Toph and why she's an excellent example of positive representation of a blind person. Wrasslin', masculinity, parenting and James Randi are also discussed. Not necessarily in that order.

TAR #25 - That Dank Ass Avatar Weed (feat. Jess once more!)

Hey... u up, winky face emoji? It's the horniest-ever episode of The Avatar Recycle, featuring Avatar Kyoshi and her enormous feet! The fandom has long called Avatar Day one of the worst episodes of the show, second only to The Great Divide. But is it really as bad as all that?

Join the usual gang of idiots (plus Jess!) as we investigate! Enjoy such discoveries as the Sensitive Ruffian, elephant shrews, and well-oiled men with torches.

I had no idea what I was missing out on!

I watched Code Lyoko as a kid and still consider it to be one of the shows that influenced me as an artist and writer. I had no idea there was a whole podcast originally dedicated to Code Lyoko and I'm really interested to hear more from these hosts on other media; the title really suits it, not only is it a retrospective on the CL series but also on the other things that people our age watched at that point in time. We're in the middle of a pandemic right now and I've taken it upon myself to rewatch, re-read, re-play, and re-listen to old media that i enjoy just to sort of remind myself of my inspirations and stay motivated as a creative person while in quarantine and this podcast has been my Code Lyoko rewatch companion! Really love it so far and I've only listened to the first few episodes. I know beyond shadow of a doubt that it just gets better and I hope these folks keep up the great work.

No value

It could be funny, but Mary brings it down.

Wish I wasn’t late.

Great show. These 3 are a delight! Just wish I had found it while it was still running instead of months after the finale.
