Surviving The System is a podcast created to shed light on the hypocrisy and injustice of “the system” in our nation today. I founded this podcast after first hand experience of how the system works - the shady tactics by law enforcement, the blatant disregard for the law by the legal system, the ever increasing attempts to crush the human spirit by the prison industrial complex and so called “re-entry” efforts. All of it appearing to be designed to keep people beat down, with no opportunity to learn and grow from their past mistakes. Since my experience with the system, I’ve learned that things are almost never cut and dry, right or wrong. So called “criminals” are some of the most compassionate, talented and intelligent individuals this world has to offer. On the flip side, there are some people who appear to lead the perfect life are all too often miserable human beings who are simply better at hiding their crimes from the rest of the world. My goal by starting Surviving The System is to reach as many people as possible who have been through the system, or are currently going through the system, and remind them that they are not defined by their worst mistake! You are a being of incredible power who has been conditioned by the system to forget. You can have the life you want, you can be the person you’ve always wanted to be. Throw off the shackles and remember who you are!

"At about 2 a.m. Saturday morning, October 23, 2010, outside the residence of Brandon Savage (street name "Ghostface") at 1843 North Harvard Avenue in Tulsa, Oklahoma, two people were shot." And so begins the story of how Channen Smith was dragged into a real life horror story that currently sees him incarcerated for Murder in the First degree, among others.
Shelly Davis and Malcom McCullum, a social worker with a heart for justice and a reporter with a drive to find out the truth, have been working with Channen on his wrongful imprisonment to try and undo the wrongs done to this man. Today, they share their backgrounds and details about this case. -

The 5 Why's and the Injustice System
If you've never heard the "5 Why's" theory, this is a great show for you. It's a tactic that helps you come to the root cause of an issue, by asking yourself "why" 5 times. The theory goes that by the time you answer the 5th "why," you should be at the root cause of whatever issue you're addressing (or at least close enough). So, I apply this theory to the system! Why? Why not, right?

The Prison Industrial Complex Exposed!
This is an excellent podcast about the systemic failings of the United States’ correctional system. Dave draws on his firsthand experience with the American “Justice” system and relates that knowledge to many of the other societal shortcomings. Whether you’re facing a struggle with the criminal “justus” system, coming out of the same, or you’re just a citizen taxpayer fed up with your state’s squandering of people and money, you are sure to learn from listening.
