Switching Things Up | How To Stay Positive | Episode 6

Tips for Staying Positive When Things Are Tough Are you having trouble at work? Or perhaps you’re going through a divorce? Does it feel like your life is falling apart? Don’t despair! A positive attitude can go a long way toward creating happiness. Everyone has problems at some point or another. In fact, over 12.5 million work days were lost in the UK alone in 2017 due to stress, anxiety, or depression. Stress affects people mostly because of money, work, poor health, or family responsibilities. Remember, when one door closes, another one opens. The problems you’re facing now will soon be just a bad memory. So, what’s the key to staying positive when things are looking bleak? Let’s find out! Don’t Wait to Be Happy How many times have you told yourself that you’ll be happy as soon as you switch jobs or get a raise? The truth is that these things might not happen anytime soon. If you rely on them to live your best life, you deny your right to happiness. Appreciate every moment and focus on the good in your life. Live in the present moment and be grateful for what you have now. Stop Playing the Victim When times get tough, we tend to blame others for our problems. Doing so will only keep you from finding solutions and solving things out. Take responsibility for the current situation and then find a way to fix it. Break free from the “poor me” mentality and be proactive in your quest for happiness. Jump into Something New Opportunities are everywhere. It’s a matter of going out and looking. Stuck in a bad job? Find something else! Assess your skills and figure out how you could use them to boost your income and help others in the process. Have you just lost a big client? Start pitching potential customers. Dedicate at least 30 minutes every day to cold emailing and job hunting. The more options you have, the better. Start a Meditation Habit Meditation is one of the best ways to calm your mind and ward off stress. It’s so powerful that it alters the brain’s structure and triggers positive changes in the areas associated with memory, creativity, and cognition. Make a habit out of meditating every single day. Do it for at least 10 minutes. Close your eyes, clear your mind, and take deep breaths. The benefits are immediate. Just because your life isn’t perfect right now, it doesn’t mean it will be like this forever. Problems come and go. What matters is to look on the bright side and hang in there. Get out and enjoy yourself for a little bit. Read a good book, call an old friend, or start a new hobby. These small things can make a world of difference. Switching Things Up | Thinking Small to Go Big | Episode 5

Did you know that only eight percent of people reach their goals? That's right! The other 92 percent fail within weeks or months. According to researchers, what differentiates the two comes down to one simple thing: setting specific and challenging goals. However, this doesn't mean you should try to do everything at once. In fact, trying to reach the stars is often a recipe for failure. If you want to go big, you have to think small. Break big goals into smaller goals and start from there. What's Wrong with “Thinking Big?” We keep hearing that we can accomplish anything we want, whether it's saving the world or becoming an astronaut. Unfortunately, that's unlikely to happen. Sure, you could do it, but it will take years of hard work. For this reason, it's so important to take small steps toward your goals. The truth is, what you need to do is to think big in detail. It's necessary to have detailed information, plans, knowledge, and skills for your big goals to become a reality. That won't happen overnight. A big idea doesn't guarantee success. Anyone can have ideas, but only a few can bring them to life. When thinking big, it's easier to miss the small details and make costly mistakes. If you fail, you'll feel disappointed and have a hard time starting all over. For example, many people dream of building a million-dollar business. However, they haven't yet learned how to make even $1. To succeed, think big in increments. Focus on making your first dollar, then your first $100, then $1,000, and so on. Change Your Habits to Change Your Life Whether you want to become the next Steve Jobs, launch a successful project, or climb up the career ladder, you need to start with baby steps. Swap any habits that hold you back for habits that move you forward. Let's say you always find excuses to skip your workout. By doing that you'll never manage to lose those extra pounds and get in shape. Commit yourself to hit the gym at least three times a week. Take it seriously just like you do with your job or family time. A month later, schedule four workouts a week. In the meantime, make small changes to your diet. Do one thing at a time. For instance, you could ditch the sugar during week one, cut back on junk food the second week, cook your meals from fresh ingredients the third week, and so on. Think small to go big, and the results will follow! We hope to see you tomorrow for the next article in the "Switching Things Up Series!" Switching Things Up | It May Be Time To Shift Your Thinking | Episode 4

I am excited to bring you today, a short episode on Shifting Your Mindset! No lists. No to dos. Just some thoughts on what might just be what the doctor ordered! It May Be Time to Shift Your Mindset If you are experiencing low energy, or are not in good spirits, you may want to consider altering your mindset. When you are down, it can be due to negative thoughts. You start to dwell on everything that is going wrong. You reflect that you aren’t where you thought you would be and it gives you a sinking feeling. When you start to have negative thoughts, you are setting the stage to beat yourself down. What’s worse is this situation continues to grow. Negativity feeds on itself. When you put yourself down, you will eventually put others down. You will look for others who share your negativity because misery loves company. As the negative energy thrives, you fall deeper into the mental abyss. To turn this around, you first have to realize that it’s happening. No one likes to admit to doing something wrong, but negative thinking is wrong if you are engaging in it. You have to try and reflect on your life. Think back to when you were happy. Was it a couple of months ago or a couple of years? That will give you a good indication of when you started with the negative thinking. When you were happy, it’s unlikely you were thinking negatively. If you don’t believe you are negative but you feel down about your current situation, consider asking friends and family how you have been behaving recently. Tell them you want an honest assessment. Unfortunately, because you are in a negative mindset, you may lash out at their answers. That will make them upset with you since you told them you want an honest assessment. However, if it helps you to see what you are doing, eventually they will forgive you when you turn the situation around. Once you have identified that you have a negative mindset, work hard to introduce positivity into your life. Set up a bad thoughts money jar and whenever you say something negative, put money into the jar. You can do this at work, at home, or both. When you see the jar filling up, you know you have more work to do. Avoid other negative people as much as possible. They will try to bring you back down, and you may even let them do it. Limiting your exposure to these people is a great step to take on your journey towards positivity. I hope we’ll see you here tomorrow for “Thinking Small to Go Big”, part 5 in our 10 part series titled “Switching Things Up!”
