America Is Loving Itself with Najah Monique Todd

Najah Monique Todd is a pillar of the Tacoma Community, a master hair artist at Embellish Multispace Salon, a plus size model, globe trotter, and half of the duo that is the 90's pop influenced Tacoma band, known as Mirrorgloss. In this episode, we cover her recently established love for traveling and how impossible it isn't (even if you have to go it alone), keeping yourself safe in a Covid world and how important self-care and self-love is, especially amidst the chaos of a world grappling with racism head on. Najah also shares her thoughts on police violence, while recalling her own story of being arrested after calling the cops to help her in a domestic violence situation, and how betrayed she felt as a woman when the female officer threatened to book her for resisting arrest if she continued to cry. Through every dip and dive, in true Najah style, she embraces the good in all of these experiences, and shares how right now, America is loving itself, because you can't make a real change until you've looked into the darkness and purged it at the core. Najah is a strong, beautiful, and powerful woman, and it's an honor to give her a platform to share a snippet of her life with my listeners as she talks about her music and her life. A Thread of Kindness with Stephen Gibb

Stephen Gibb is a heavy metal musician who has played in many bands, including Black Label Society, Crowbar, Kingdom of Sorrow, Saigon Kick, and before Covid struck, had been spending time accompanying his father, Barry Gibb, on tours. In 2011, Stephen offered me a chair on one of the lowest days in my life. Almost ten years later, we take an hour or so to share our struggles with addiction and our love for a life worth living in sobriety. Connection is a powerful gift, and you never know where it might one day lead. In this episode, the "Prince of Disco" (I found out 4 days prior to recording that he is the son of a Beegee) tells me about learning how to take accountability for himself and making better choices in a sober life, getting kicked out of Black Label Society, a relapse that almost took his life, and a web series scheduled to launch in July called "Addiction Walks" accompanied by the podcast "Addiction Talks". Please know that for anyone out there suffering with addiction, you truly are not alone in your struggle, and there is a thread of kindness that exists among those of us in recovery who are more than happy to help weave you into the tapestry of a beautiful, sober life.
