Dr. Rob Rice is a Professor and Chair of the Graduate Program in Mental Health Counseling at St. John Fisher University, where his research focuses on integrating technology, like video games, with mental health treatment for young people.  As an athlete, Dr. Rice was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 37. Learning to manage this late diagnosis with his passion for the outdoors, he has since climbed over 100 mountains, including all 46 Adirondack High Peaks, becoming an ADK 46er at the age of 46. Dr. Rice is the author of multiple books. Today, part of our discussion includes pieces from his most recent publication, Cliff Notes. Our conversation covers the key events and what Dr. Rice learned about Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) during this pivotal moment, as well as during his years managing T1D in the mountains. – On this podcast, I like to provide all tools and information cost-free to our listeners. Rob was gracious enough today to share much of his story within his book, Cliff Notes, cost-free to us. As a thank you, I'd like to give his book a shoutout. Dr. Rice's latest work, Cliff Notes: Contemplating Life on the Edge is a compelling, true survival story from the Adirondacks, where he uses his experience on a cliff ledge as a metaphor to explore mindfulness, nature's role in mental health, and consciousness. You can find Cliff Notes by Robert Rice available for purchase on Amazon.
