But what can this ancient technology tell us about the world that followed? In this episode, we take a closer look at the humble brick—how it was made, how firing transformed mud into a durable building material, and how brickmaking helped make possible some of the great architectural achievements of the ancient world. Starting with the biblical account of Babel, we explore the spread of humanity after the scattering and examine the ancient civilizations that continued to manufacture and build with brick across Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Levant, the Indus region, and beyond.
