It was the worst Marine-on-Marine friendly fire incident in modern history. But it's not in the history books. An explosion in Fallujah, Iraq left three dead, a dozen wounded, and – for high-ranking officials – a dilemma. So, why were the families of the deceased lied to? Why did the reports mysteriously disappear? And why do survivors still have to wonder about what happened on the worst day of their lives? Taking Cover, an NPR investigative series from the Embedded podcast, isn't just a show about unraveling blue-on-blue tragedy during the Iraq war. It's about what happens when we send our young to war. It's a story of betrayal, brotherhood, and what's owed – to families, the wounded and to the American public.

One of the best podcast series I have ever listened to. Wow.
I’m at a loss for words

I don’t know what to think about war, I don’t understand why we send our bravest to die on foreign soil. I pray that those who send our soldiers to war listen to how devastating it is. Arguing about the “woke mob”, while young men and women are being slaughtered. How ugly.

I found the entire podcast brilliant. It is presented with honesty & humanity toward every individual and family affected by the tragedy of death by friendly fire and the abysmal betrayal of trust on the part of the military. The integrity of the reportage is beyond questioning. MBrandes

There were many hard, but much appreciated truths in this podcast. The narration communicated the gravity throughout, giving respect to the fallen, the survivors, and the families impacted. The Marines interviewed about that day gave some of the most impactful, insightful, and heart-breaking accounts I’ve ever heard. Tom, Graham and their team have done wonderful work with their research, sound design, and reporting. This is what journalism is truly about. To the reviewer that asks “Who benefited?” and believes this incident should have remained buried. I implore you to listen the podcast again and really pay attention this time.
