Signs You're Working At A Sh*tty Recruiting Firm - The 10 Minute Talent Rant

Signs You're Working At A Sh*tty Recruiting Firm - The 10 Minute Talent Rant

Call time tracking. Cliques. Micromanagement. Unrealistic expectations. Confusing and bogus comp plans. No work-life balance. Complete lack of empathy. Bullying.

The recruiters reading this are probably shaking their heads: “Been there.”

Our industry is full of “boiler room” shops. And the most unfortunate part? They prey on younger workers with minimal experience who don’t know any better. So they leave recruiting entirely.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Perhaps knowing can make a difference?

Jeff Smith and James Hornick go HAM on the awful experience every recruiter had at some point in their career in the next The 10 Minute Talent Rant, "Signs You're Working At A Sh*tty Recruiting Firm"

Ever Get Stiffed On Commissions? - The 10 Minute Talent Rant

Ever Get Stiffed On Commissions? - The 10 Minute Talent Rant

Ever close a deal and never see a dime from it because you were on your way out?

Our data shows that 60% of salespeople or recruiters have. And another 24% worry it could.

When it happens, people talk. Word gets out. Is that really the “retention strategy” you want to be known for?

Jeff Smith and James Hornick discuss the ethics of it (or lack of) in the next The 10 Minute Talent Rant, "Ever Get Stiffed On Commissions?"

Marketplaces: Recruiting As Self Service - The 10 Minute Talent Rant

Marketplaces: Recruiting As Self Service - The 10 Minute Talent Rant

Books. Cars. Video games. Fast Food. Apartments. A ride to the airport.

You can buy pretty much anything online. Marketplaces made virtually every purchase experience faster, easier, more transparent, and self-service.

So why not recruiting? Why is the hiring process stuck in analog?

Jeff Smith and James Hornick will dig into the what’s held our industry back and why that’s going to change in the next The 10 Minute Talent Rant, "Marketplaces: Recruiting As Self Service"

You Don’t Need ‘Hiring’ Content - The Employer Content Show

You Don’t Need ‘Hiring’ Content - The Employer Content Show

Irony: the least effective content to drive interest for your hiring? Content that talks about your hiring.

Effective recruiter marketing will drive job seeker interest your way. If you focus on the things they actually care about.

But no one cares about how exciting your environment is. Or how much money you raised. Or how fast you’re growing.

Nate Guggia and James Hornick will cover why the go-to hiring messaging is a total waste of time.

No One Understands Recruiting But Recruiters, Volume 1 - The 10 Minute Talent Rant

No One Understands Recruiting But Recruiters, Volume 1 - The 10 Minute Talent Rant

You just post jobs and people apply, right?

And everyone wants to work here because they already know what a great place it is, right?

And if I’m busy they’ll all wait for me to be ready to hire, right?

    Right???

Recruiters have all hit a point where we feel like we’re taking crazy pills. No one really understands what it is we do.

Mom and dad? Never gonna get it. But hiring managers and execs? We need to bridge that gap before hiring (and frankly, life) becomes impossible.

In a topic that will undoubtedly demand a sequel, Jeff Smith and James Hornick will tell you how in the next The 10 Minute Talent Rant, "No One Understands Recruiting But Recruiters, Volume 1"

Good Onboarding Fixes Bad Retention - The 10 Minute Talent Rant

Good Onboarding Fixes Bad Retention - The 10 Minute Talent Rant

Trying to hire when you’ve got a retention problem is like pouring water in a leaky bucket. You can’t recruit your way out of it.

It especially hurts when it’s preventable. There’s a lot of reasons why people may leave your org, but the lowest hanging fruit and easiest fix: better onboarding.

First impressions are everything. If you’re just sending someone a computer and hoping for the best…no wonder why they bail.

We get it. It’s harder in the remote world. But strong onboarding is still very doable. Jeff Smith and James Hornick will tell you how in the next The 10 Minute Talent Rant, "Good Onboarding Fixes Bad Retention”

James is a beast

This is the only staffing/ recruitment related podcast I listen to. James is a wealth of knowledge and sarcasm.
Especially like his recurring guest shows with Nate Guggia.
