The Desegregation of Marriage in America: Loving vs Virginia

The Loving v. Virginia case was a landmark decision by the Supreme Court of the United States, which struck down all anti-miscegenation laws in the country in 1967. The case centered around Richard and Mildred Loving, a white man and a black woman who were married in Virginia in 1958, and were subsequently arrested for violating the state’s anti-miscegenation laws. The Lovings were forced to leave Virginia and were barred from returning until their case was heard by the Supreme Court. Mermaid237 ,

10 stars! Must listen for history buffs!

Long time listener, first time reviewer…well done you two! Not only do I LOVE the variety of topics but I LOVE the knowledgeable, respectful way the two of you delve into history and some controversial topics. I just listened to the Henrietta Lacks episode and thought you did a beautiful job educating us on her immortal legacy. Her story is a mandatory read for most nursing and medical school curriculum but even though her story has gotten out there, there is no way for people to understand the magnitude of her impact on modern day medicine. You guys did a great job. I love the cemetery episodes…as an avid taphophile (look that word up 🤣) I find them wicked interesting and you’ve made me want to go explore some of your episode locations! The respectful banter and easy dialogue you two share shows how much you love history and also love each other 💞. Keep up the good work. I have some good ghost stories for a history buzz episode if you’re interested…😉 Love ~ Your Favorite Mermaid 🧜‍♀️
