Music. It makes the world go round, it's imbedded in our lives. Whether your taste was shaped from your parent’s record collection, friend’s mixtapes, or the latest hits from the radio, these artists form important memories, they make you sing, laugh, cry and dance. Talking About… podcast was formed from an idea by two lifelong friends, James Gentle & Phil Reynolds' love of the band REM and along with fellow friend Gareth Norman has evolved in to a regular look in to all music both old and new. Each episode will take a deep-ish yet light hearted dive into the history of a different band or artist. We'll discuss our take on their footprint in history whilst discussing how they've played a part in our lives...or not. There’s lots of lists, laughs, guests and games! We even throw in a Spotify playlist for you to listen to our favourite tracks from each episode.

    For our last episode of the series we're looking in to one hell of a band, The Stone Roses. They're one of the greatest bands to come out of the UK. Brash, confident and with the talent to back it up, Brown, Squire, Mani and Reni gave us music that changed lives and shaped the musical landscape of the time. We’re diving in to their career which gave so much before discovering what caused it all to implode in the most spectacular way!     Since forming in 2001, TV On The Radio have been pushing the boundaries of music.  Original members Dave Sitek and Tunde Adebimpe were inspired by Radiohead and released their first demo album, Ok Calculator, in 2002. Two years later and with the addition of Kyp Malone, TVOTR released the critically acclaimed Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes, an album so full of creativity, experiment and raw emotion that it was hard not to ignore. The band have released 5 studio albums to date and in this episode we’re taking a look at all of them and the new york scene of the noughties. Gareth and James test their knowledge in the AI v Artist lyric game and as ever we have a 15 track playlist of our favourite TVOTR cuts! This episode was recorded in January 2026.     Yes! Recorded in June 2025, next up on the Talking About journey...NIRVANA!!! This band had a huge influence on us as well as millions around the world. They changed music forever and are arguably one of the most important bands of the last 40 years. We dive into how that happened and ask the question, what would Nirvana sound like now if they were still together? We have no guest this week but the recruitment team have been on fine form and delved into the transfer market to make one of the smartest transfers since Eric Cantona joined Manchester United from Leeds back in the early nineties.  Gareth (our guest from Episode 1) impressed us so much that we’ve recruited him as co-host to help us turn the podcast world on its head! So James and Gareth will battle it out in the lyrics game again and there is plenty of tomfoolery to match! Our first guest is a long time friend of ours, Gareth Norman, a man who's beard is as great as his love for R.E.M. We take a look into his life through music. From his Dad's record collection to his introduction to R.E.M. From his childhood to the present day, we'll discover what R.E.M. means to him and what his favourite albums and tracks are.
