Wrong Bills Moves & Should Sabres Buy Out Skinner?

Wrong Bills Moves & Should Sabres Buy Out Skinner?

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined in studio by longtime friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks for a conversation focused primarily on answering questions regarded the Buffalo Bills and Sabres in addition to Bills season tickets and a (quick) MLB 2024 preview.
Tone Pucks has been a Buffalo Bills season ticket holder. Will he continue to be with the new stadium and the PSL (personal seating license) that comes with them? Patrick asks Pucks for his perspective and also shares a couple of things he's learned regarding how things are going with the Bills getting the selling of specific PSL's underway.
They also go over some questions and comments submitted from fans, including being asked what they haven't liked so far when it comes to the Bills offseason, their favorite non-Josh Allen pick of the Brandon Beane/Sean McDermott era and Patrick getting roasted for suggesting on Twitter the Sabres should buy out Jeff Skinner after this season. Spoiler alert: This leads to a colossal Tone Pucks rant.
That plus a conversation about Major League Baseball getting underway with some predictions and much more.

Buffalo Bills Mock Draft, Version 1.0 (Featuring Bruce Nolan)

Buffalo Bills Mock Draft, Version 1.0 (Featuring Bruce Nolan)

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, the first of what'll be five weekly Buffalo Bills mock drafts takes place and Patrick Moran is joined by one of the most highly regarded podcasters in the game, Bruce Nolan (Buffalo Rumblings) for his insights and ultimately forecast for how the draft may play out for Buffalo.
Before getting into the mock draft the guys spend some time going over Bruce's evaluations of the Bills offseason as things currently stand. Bruce has given his stamp of approval to most of Brandon Beane's moves but wasn't in love with the re-signing off Taylor Rapp. He's extremely candid in explaining to Patrick exactly why. He also elaborates on if the Bills offseason moves have moved the needle for him in terms of who he'd be looking to draft positionally.
The mock draft, one that should be noted does not include trades begins today and with the Bills on the clock at 28, Bruce is left with a tough decision. Highly touted and popular among Bills fans wide receiver Adonai Mitchell is on the board, yet shockingly Bruce ends up going with a guy in the trenches for the Bills first pick---and not on the side of the ball most think! Bruce explains why going to the interior of the offensive line is the right call in this situation.
There's a receiver Bruce has pegged for the Bills second pick (No. 60) and sweats it out before Javon Baker ultimately falls to him. With no third round pick and trades disallowed in the mock, Bruce goes defensive interior and a second receiver in the fourth before using all three of his fifth rounds picks to add to the defense.
Bruce also explains how mock drafts, although almost entirely inaccurate at the end can be an excellent thought exercise. He also trolls Miami a little at the end of the mock draft and much more.
You can follow Bruce on Twitter @BruceExclusive and make sure to check out The Bruce Exclusive podcast every Thursday, part of the Buffalo Rumblings podcasting network.

Does First Round WR's Correlate To Super Bowls?

Does First Round WR's Correlate To Super Bowls?

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino of Buffalo Rumbings for their weekly chat, this time focused on data Patrick's looked up that suggests that drafting wide receivers in the first round may help booster offenses but it hasn't correlated into teams winning more Super Bowls, with Anthony immediately poking holes in the theory---sort of.
Of the last 15 Super Bowl champions, only five of them (one third) have had a starting wide receiver that was selected in the first round of a draft, and of those five just three actually even led their team in receiving that season. Conversely, one third (10 of 30) of those starting wide receivers featured second round selections, with another five being third round picks. Translation---teams that have won Super Bowls over the past 15 years have been chock full of day two wide receiver draft picks. The guys have plenty of thoughts on this.
The more common trait in Super Bowl champions has been scoring defense. 10 of the last 15 winners have featured a scoring defense that's been in the top eight of the league. Patrick and Anthony have plenty to say about this and more specifically how it pertains to the Buffalo Bills.
Speaking of, the guys discuss where they think the team is at as things currently stand more than three weeks into free agency. Are they better on paper than a lot of national media think? Has Brandon Beane done enough to send this team into the draft without a glaring need? That and plenty more today.
Be sure to follow Anthony on Twitter @AnthMarino and check out Buffalo Rumblings, featuring written and podcast/vidcast content pretty much daily.

Buffalo Stadium PSL Concerns & Thoughts On New Bills/Sabres COO

Buffalo Stadium PSL Concerns & Thoughts On New Bills/Sabres COO

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens for their weekly conversation, this week heavily focused on some information coming out about PSL's for the new Buffalo Bills stadium that may concern fans as well as some thoughts on new Bills/Sabres COO Pete Guelli and the long awaited return of the Starting Five draft.
The Bills are in the process of preparing to give current season ticket holders a Stadium Experience tour with the goal of selling them on wanting to obtain a PSL (personal seating license) to be able to continue to being a season ticket holder when the new stadium eventually opens. Unpopular for obvious reasons but quickly becoming commonplace with new stadiums, the guys have thoughts on PSL and how it may effect fans-----from the tough sell the Bills have to straight up pricing some out of continuing to carry season tickets. They explain with at least some details as best they can what a PSL actually means and share some speculation and guesses on what the cost of doing season ticket business with the Bills may ultimately be.
They also spend some time talking about new Bills & Sabres COO Pete Guelli, who'll be tasked with tough assignments that include having a major part in the overseeing of Bills season tickets with a new stadium and trying to find ways to both improve the Key Bank Center and get fans excited about coming to hockey games again and having a better arena experience---again, easier said than done.
Also, it's the return of the Starting Five draft, a fun weekly exercise Patrick once did with Joe Yerdon or more than a full year when the guys each make five draft selections on a different topic each time. In honor of it being Easter week, this time the guys are drafting Best Bunnies. That and much more.
That plus some observations from a wild week around the league and much more. Follow Joe on Twitter @BuffaloWins.

Fan Friday: Will Bills End Up Better On Paper?

Fan Friday: Will Bills End Up Better On Paper?

On this Fan Friday episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran responds to several questions and takes from fans of the show primarily focused on the Buffalo Bills, including an early examination on if this team is going to end up as good or better on paper than last season.
The Bills have suffered some tough losses since last season ended, including a handful of players well known around the league like Mitch Morse, Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer and Tre White. It's led to a lot of people, especially nationally concluding the Bills are no long as good and in some cases have even said their Super Bowl window is closing if not closed. Patrick takes a comment and elaborates on it to show that's not actually true, going as far as to say they've upgraded the safety and wide receiver positions, with defensive tackle depth simply being addition by subtraction.
Patrick also responds to questions and statements about defensive tackle being a first-round lock, if the Bills can afford to wait until pick No. 60 to get their wide receiver and if Khalil Shakir deserves a bigger role in the offense based on how he finished last season.
There's also a question on if Buffalo Sabres coach Don Granato should keep his job, Wrestlemania 40 bold predictions and much more.

What Bills Offense Should We Expect? (Featuring Alex Brasky)

What Bills Offense Should We Expect? (Featuring Alex Brasky)

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Batavia Daily sports editor Alex Brasky to discuss the Buffalo Bills offense and what we may expect to see from it in 2024.
Last season the Bills departed from being almost exclusively a team that'd see Josh Allen chuck the ball over the field from three and four wide receiver sets. The Bills ran the ball more last year and they played (a lot) more two tight end personnel. There's a belief head coach Sean McDermott will want even more packages where the Bills are bigger---whether it's two tight ends or packages that include an extra offensive lineman. Alex has thoughts on what's likely coming and if it plays to strengths of Allen or if it puts restraints on the type of quarterback he should be.
Also, the guys revisit some of Patrick's biggest Bills question marks from yesterday's show and Alex has his own thoughts on them, including Stefon Diggs, Von Miller, Connor McGovern and the defensive tackle position as things currently stand.
That plus some catching up with Alex personally, a little bit of Buffalo Sabres talk as the team's playoff chances have officially hit life support and more. You can follow Alex on Twitter @AlexBrasky.

FARTSTAIN!!!!

This show is great…usually, but when mathews fartstain is the guest… get ready for the worlds most boring hour of narcissism and a side of hockey and a sprinkle of bills content by this new england chowder loving bore. You might hear 5 min of “insight” about the bills but only after 20 minutes of hockey crap sandwiched between 30 minutes about the craptastic fartburn himself. Thanks for ruining the show w this 30 year old who sounds 59, f u farstain!!!! And stop saying “buuuuuuuut” ten times a podcast. Dork.
