Cancer, body image, and wearing that swimsuit

One in every two of us will be affected by cancer at some point in our lives. Today Dr. Philippa Kaye, GP and author, comes on the show to talk about cancer and body image.

When Dr. Philippa was 39, she was told she had bowel cancer. It changed everything.
“I spent my whole life firmly believing that knowledge is power. And then suddenly here I was, and the knowledge wasn’t helping me," she explains. "Doctors are always trained on what’s next. We’re trained to weigh up risks and benefits in our head — and they weren’t always in my favor.”

Now Dr Philippa, author of Doctors Get Cancer Too, is focused on helping others navigate their own journey.

On the show today, we discuss:
How long term illness impacts body image What she wished well-meaning friends would have known The tools she used to navigate her cancer journey How she approached scarsWhy she's still wearing that two pieceFor more information on Dr. Philippa, please visit drphilippakaye.com or find her on Instagram at instagram.com/drphilippakaye

This Woman is Changing Lives

It’s so important in the world we live in to show the imperfection and the actual HUMANITY in social media. Woman are meant to believe they must form to an “ideal” image that is not achievable. Danae speaks about how this is so problematic and helps us to re-learn how we see body image in the world today. She shares her vulnerability to the world and her courage to do so is helping to change the world. I believe her work is the work of a revolution, and this revolution is one that is worth fighting for and one that has been long overdue.

Strong is sexy

Thank you for this podcast and shedding a light on so many issues women deal with today. In the world of social media it’s easy to get caught up in comparing yourself or wishing for more. What I love about Danae is her honesty, her vulnerability, and her strength. I wish I had someone like her around when I was in my 20’s when I was full of self-loathing, hating everything about my body, and trying to attain an unattainable beauty set by the standards of the media. She’s given me a confidence in myself I didn’t know I had and wished I did when I was younger. She’s a wonderful role model and I can’t say enough about her! Absolute 100% recommend this podcast.
