Taste and Seek

Linnea Smith

Can we truly taste and see God's goodness in our lives, or is it an empty invitation that leaves us longing and wanting more? Does God care about the mundane moments? Is he there in the waiting room? In our conversations, we will be diving into various topics with guests who will help us see God and his activity. We will be covering a wide spectrum of our lives' experiences ranging from parenting, mental health, loss, and our vocations. As a teacher, a mom, a wife, a workshop leader, my passion is to encourage you to seek God throughout your days and then equip those around you.

Ep. 56 Cover to Cover Finishing 1 Kings, Psalms, Proverbs, Song of Solomon, Ecclesiastes and 2 Chronicles 13-22

Synopsis: In this first June reflection, we look back on finishing Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Psalms, 1 Kings, and most of 2 Chronicles. Together, we explore three key themes from the reading: God’s faithfulness to His promises, the lasting impact of leadership, and the courage to receive and speak truth. From God preserving David’s line for the coming of Jesus, to the ripple effects of leaders like Rehoboam and Jeroboam, to the bold example of the prophet Micaiah standing before King Ahab, these passages remind us that God remains faithful even when people fail. In this episode you will hear: 1) God’s promises remain secure as He faithfully preserves David’s lineage and continues His plan to bring Jesus into the world. 2) The leadership of Israel and Judah shows how a leader’s heart can influence families, communities, and even entire nations. 3) Micaiah’s boldness before King Ahab challenges us to speak truth faithfully and respond humbly to God’s conviction. 4) Following Jesus brings freedom, peace, and restoration as we learn the difference between serving God and following our own way. Ep 55 The Salt + Light Project: Changing the Community Through Families Serving Together

Synopsis: In this episode, we explore why serving together as a family is one of the most overlooked ways to shape our children's faith. Between busy schedules, activities, and daily responsibilities, it can be difficult to create margin for serving others. Yet service teaches us to see needs, practice generosity, build family unity, and experience God's work in everyday life. This is why The Salt + Light Project exists. We'll discuss practical ways to cultivate a family culture of service, why it matters for spiritual formation, and how even small acts of kindness can leave a lasting legacy. In this episode you will hear: 1) Service forms the heart. Serving others helps children (and adults) develop compassion, generosity, humility, and awareness of the needs around them. 2) Families grow stronger through shared experiences. Serving together creates meaningful memories and strengthens relationships within the home. 3) Busy schedules can crowd out important opportunities. Good activities are valuable, but families need intentional rhythms that leave room for serving others. 4) Service starts at home. Helping siblings, doing chores, and caring for family members are practical ways children learn to put others first. 5) Following Jesus requires action. Faith is not only about learning God's Word but also living it out by caring for people and responding to needs with love. Ep 54: Cover to Cover 1 Kins 8-11, 2 Chronicles 1-9, and Proverbs 1-29

Synopsis: In this episode, we reflect on 1 Kings 8–11, 2 Chronicles 1–9, and Proverbs 1–29, exploring two challenging but hope-filled themes that emerge from Solomon's life and writings. In this episode you will hear: 1) We consider the sobering reality that how we start does not determine how we end. Solomon began his reign with extraordinary wisdom, humility, and devotion to God, yet his story ends with compromise. His life reminds us that wisdom is not merely something we possess—it is something we must continually choose to live by. As we wrestle with Solomon's rise and fall, we are also reminded that only God sees the full story of a person's heart. Our role is not to judge but to encourage one another to keep running the race of faith with perseverance. 2) Conviction is an invitation to transformation. While reading the Bible, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by our failures and shortcomings. Yet God's conviction is not meant to crush us—it is grow us. Through seasons of dryness, struggle, and exposure, God lovingly refines us, revealing areas where He wants to bring healing, freedom, and growth. The discomfort of conviction becomes an opportunity to become more fully who He created us to be. Ep 53: Cover to Cover 2 Samuel 21-24, 1 Chronicles, and 1 Kings 1-7

Synopsis: In this episode, we reflect on 2 Samuel 21–24, 1 Chronicles, and 1 Kings 1–7, exploring three powerful themes that connect God's faithfulness across generations. In this episode you will hear: 1) We consider David's legacy. Though he would not be the one to build the temple, David faithfully prepared the foundation for Solomon's success. His intentional planning, generosity, and vision created an opportunity for both Israel and the surrounding nations to participate in building a dwelling place for God. What kind of foundation are we leaving for those who come after us? 2) We look at Solomon's famous request for wisdom. Faced with the enormous responsibility of leading God's people, Solomon asked not for wealth or power, but for wisdom. God honored that request, reminding us that wisdom remains a gift available to all who seek it. As James 1:5 teaches, God gives wisdom generously to those who ask. 3) we explore the beautiful imagery of fire from heaven filling the temple and how it points forward to Pentecost. Throughout Scripture, fire signifies God's presence, approval, and power. When the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples like tongues of fire, God revealed a stunning truth: His presence would no longer be confined to a building. Through Christ, God's people themselves became His dwelling place, carrying His light into the world. Resources mentioned: - Cover to Cover Bible Reading Plan Connect with T+S! Ep 52: Cover to Cover 1 Samuel 14-31 + 2 Samuel 1-20

Synopsis: A late reflection, but a meaningful one—tracing the rise of David, the fall of Saul, and the steady, unchanging character of God through it all. In this episode you will hear: 1) What does the Lord delight in?Not partial obedience, but wholehearted love expressed through obedience. Saul’s compromise with the Amalekites shows how easy it is to justify “almost” obeying when it benefits us. True obedience flows from loving God fully—not just doing what’s convenient. 2) God’s justice and mercy are never in conflictDavid’s story—through tragedies involving Tamar, Amnon, and Bathsheba—reveals both human failure and divine consistency. Even when justice feels hard to understand, God remains righteous and merciful. Unlike David, God does not play favorites; He responds to genuine repentance with grace, yet sin still carries real consequences. 3) David points us to a better KingThe hope placed in David ultimately falls short. His life reminds us that even the best human leaders fail. But God’s promise—the Davidic Covenant—was always pointing forward to Jesus Christ, the true King who reigns in righteousness, protects the vulnerable, and fulfills every promise perfectly. A sobering and hopeful reminder: our hearts long for a perfect king—and that longing is only satisfied in Christ. Ep. 51 Cover to Cover Joshua 24-25, Judges, Ruth + 1 Samuel 1-13

Synopsis: A new generation has risen in Israel and shocker of all shockers- they have abandoned the God who rescued them to pursue their own ways. They did what was right in their own eyes believing they could serve both God and "gods." However, we must choose one. Although Judges shows how far we can stray, Ruth and 1 Samuel remind us that God has never forgotten his promise. In this episode you will hear: - First, am I listening to the Shepherd's voice or my own? How do I know if I am? In Judges, the next generation of Israelites abandoned the ways of the Lord taught by Moses and Joshua to follow their own ways. Though we don't like to think so, we are more like them than different. So, how do we learn our Shepherd's voice? - Second, the story of Ruth reminds us that in the chaos of Judges, God had not forgotten his promise. It's a bright spot to see God's faithfulness. Through the love story of Ruth and Boaz will come the world's greatest redemption. - Finally, in Hannah, we are reminded that God meets our greatest needs. While God grants Hannah a baby and even a couple more after Samuel's birth, it wasn't a baby that Hannah so desperately needed, but to know that she wasn't alone in her situation. God saw her and cared for her. Don't we all need that hope? Resources mentioned: - Cover to Cover Bible Reading Plan Have you gotten your Anchored Ticket yet? Ep. 49 Cover to Cover- Deuteronomy 5-34 and Joshua 1-20

Synopsis: A pile of stones. A city with a violent past. And a God who refuses to leave broken stories unfinished. In this episode, we explore how God invites us into covenant love, calls us to remember, and quietly works redemption in places we least expect. In this episode you will hear: - First, what does it truly mean to fear the Lord and serve Him alone? We explore God’s covenant love—a love marked by overwhelming generosity, deep devotion, and a call to find our identity in Him rather than in the lesser things that so easily entangle us. - Second, we consider the importance of telling our stories. From the rock memorials of the Jordan to the voices of the Psalms, Scripture reminds us that faith is meant to be shared—especially in the ordinary, everyday moments. This Holy Week, we ask: what has God done in your life, and who needs to hear about it? - Finally, we look for redemption in unexpected places. Through the story of Shechem, we see how God can transform even the most broken and painful histories into places of refuge and hope. Nothing is beyond His ability to restore.
