    Simplistic Religiosity

    I left my religion because it was too simplistic to be real. I always lamented the lack of depth in the religion I grew up in (Mormonism). The bland buildings, the lists of dos and do-nots, the simple "follow the prophet" mentality. In this episode, I discuss my desire for depth in spirituality and the steps I took to find it. --- Own Your Mind 6 week cohort: https://zachdtaylor.github.io/own-your-mind I sincerely believe it's not possible for humans to be irrational. We don't come to different conclusions because one of us is thinking wrong. We come to different conclusions because we have different variables. Your variables are your experiences, your fears, your unexamined beliefs. They're making your decisions whether you know it or not. In this cohort I'll teach you mathematical and psychological tools to see your own variables clearly. This will help you feel justified and safe in your decisions You'll trust yourself more deeply. And when someone sees the world differently than you, you'll understand why, instead of just thinking they're wrong.

    In this episode, I reflect on an unexpected discovery from a simple experiment with my schedule. What started as an attempt to be more intentional with my time has revealed something much deeper: structure creates presence, and presence enables love.

    The Awakening - Part 2 - Feeling Human

    In this episode, I talk about a stop on our trip that ended up meaning far more to me than I ever expected: Tromsø, Norway. We went for the fjords, the snow, and the Northern Lights — but what Norway gave me was something much deeper. As someone who grew up very sheltered and Mormon, I carried a lot of fear about the world and a constant sense of separation from other people. In Tromsø, through a series of small moments and an unexpected friendship with a couple we met from France, something shifted. For the first time in my life, I felt allowed to be fully human — to connect, to belong, and to experience normal human closeness without shame or fear. This episode is a reflection on travel, projection, religious conditioning, and the quiet, powerful moments that change us long after the trip is over.

    In this episode, I discuss how my views on Jesus have changed over time. He used to be a scary authority figure, but now I'm able to find meaning in him, his story and his teachings by shifting dropping the "savior" aspect and seeing him as an example of how to live a good human life.

This trip unexpectedly became the catalyst for the most life-changing experience I've ever had. It's one of those rare events that divides your life into before and after.     This week's episode is a sort-of follow-up to last week's. Last week, we discussed the logic of feelings. My intention there was to make feelings feel grounded and intuitive and show that it logically makes sense for you to understand them and listen to them. In this episode, we go big picture. Myth, story, and religion are really good at helping us understand the big picture of life. They put things into a framework that helps us connect to something larger than ourselves, and which serves as something to rely on when following your feelings gets difficult.
