After a devastating car accident in 2009 left him initially pronounced dead, then at best vegetative with a traumatic brain injury, he's continued to defy so many challenges in front of him--including the greatest of all--despair. Jeremy was a collegiate All-American runner with his entire future before him. The accident stripped it all away. To this day, he needs 24-7 care and cannot speak, however he has the greatest joy that those in his life have ever seen. The longest time on record that anyone has spent in an iron lung! His journey of perseverance, hope, and ingenuity offers powerful lessons on overcoming adversity and living a meaningful life despite impossible circumstances. His family played a crucial role in his survival and growth, with his father ingeniously adapting tools to help Paul paint, draw, and write, thus opening doors to the world beyond his confinement. Paul authored a memoir, "Three Minutes for a Dog, My Life in an Iron Lung," which he wrote using a plastic stick to tap out words on a keyboard. This book took eight years to complete and symbolizes his relentless effort and determination. Paul pursued higher education, earning a bachelor's degree and attending law school at the University of Texas. He became a practicing attorney focused on disability rights and at the end of his life gained a big following on social media.
