    Empowering communities and helping them to thrive

    In this episode Rich Hurst speaks with Lucy Bird and Lucy Chick about their experiences in working with communities, highlighting the importance of both listening to, and empowering communities to set up needs-based community projects, based on the assets available to them and ‘going where the energy is’.     Lucy Bird is a Community Builder at Droitwich CVS and has worked within community development for over 12 years. With knowledge of local services and opportunities, Lucy manages and supports residents to develop their offers. Lucy recognises the role of individuals within communities and the need for them to feel connected.    Lucy Chick is a Senior Public Health Practitioner in Worcestershire County Council Public Health team. With 11 years of experience in tackling a range of public health challenges & broader health determinants and is now working on reducing social isolation and loneliness, and working with an asset-based approach. This approach fosters sustainable community-led development by supporting local community assets and encouraging collaboration among individuals, associations, and institutions to enhance and utilise their collective strengths.     Designing Movement into the lives of the ageing population

    In this episode Rich Hurst speaks with Julia Neal, former CEO of Age UK Herefordshire and Worcestershire and Huw Griffiths, former Strategic Lead for Active and Healthy Ageing at Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire.  They share their experiences in working within projects to support healthy ageing, plus the importance of creating accessible projects, using positive imagery and language. By promoting movement physical activity into adult life, starting as soon as you are able to support conditioning as a preventative measure in frailty , preventing falls and to aid recovery rates.  Since recording this podcast Age UK Herefordshire and Worcestershire have sadly ceased operating, so some of the local projects mentioned may have now changed to other providers, or they may no longer be available. There are still other Age UK charities operating projects across the region, which are highlighted in the links below.     Welcome to the Active Best Practice Network presented by Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire, hosted by Rich Hurst of GiftedGab Productions. Within this podcast series, our aim is to connect with listeners on this journey of sharing best practices; aimed at professionals, communities and those who are interested in supporting and sustaining change in the health, voluntary and community sectors. There is a special emphasis on the advantages of physical activity and movement.   Throughout the series of podcasts, we have highlighted partners across the two counties, who are currently working towards improving similar issues and challenges that listeners might encounter, through strategic and grassroot projects that are currently running.
