“The proportions just don’t fit me like I’d like” - Episode 12 with Dina

“The proportions just don’t fit me like I’d like” - Episode 12 with Dina

Today I’m talking with our show’s first petite guest, Dina, a wife & mom who is starting her empty-nester years and struggles to build a closet that fits her 5’ 1” petite frame.
We chatted about building a cohesive closet that fits a widely varied lifestyle that includes occasional working in an office, daily life, working out, & special events. We celebrated that Dina has fully embraced our philosophy that the “selfie never lies” in determining if an outfit works. I recommended not only focusing on what isn’t working but also looking at selfies to see what you do love that you can try to recreate again.
I loved today’s coffee chat where Lauren & I discussed one of my favorite things to take care of at home: “tolerations.” The things that bother you every day and only take 5-10 minutes to fix.

    “I’m looking for casual elegance”

Today’s conversation focuses on embracing the evolution of style & adjusting to the times while also remaining true to yourself.
In this episode, I talk to Marcie, a retired mother who is also a competitive square dancer who wants to build a wardrobe that is comfortable, stylish, and fits her tall frame.
During our chat, we discovered that naming her desired style as “casual elegance” fit the idea of style she had in her mind but couldn’t put a label on.
We also talk about the challenges of cleaning out your closet, being willing to experiment with new ideas, and how much joining the online Outfit Formulas Closet Crew can benefit you as you try new things out.

"The best thing we can do is learn to make changes in the midst of our imperfect circumstances"

I am so excited to share this conversation with you that Myquillyn Smith & I had about the intersection of personal style & home decor.
We discuss the importance of building a home style & a house that you love NOW even if it isn’t your perfect or forever home.
We also talk about shopping your house before shopping at a store, the importance of the “homey” trinity of rugs, drapes, and lighting, & why there should always be empty surfaces in your home.

"It’s hard to dress a body you haven’t had before"

Today’s conversation focuses on embracing the PERSONAL in personal style.
In this episode, I talk to Stephanie, a school counselor who also wears the multiple hats of small business owner, podcaster, mother, and coach struggling to find the time to feel at peace with her style and closet.
During our chat, we discovered how creativity has been an important style theme throughout Stephanie’s journey and how she can return to her roots today and be creative within the boundaries of her work & current lifestyle.
We also talk about finding pre-planning outfits helpful but restrictive, the importance of good closet staples, and giving yourself permission to experiment with style.

Closet Therapy

This is the podcast I didn’t know I needed. Alison talks with women about their style story and it’s so compelling and relatable! I love the way Alison walks with guests through ways they can take their style to the next level.

I also love her chats with Lauren, and the teamwork they have for the podcast. My new obsession!! 👗👚👖

Big fan of Alison!

I’ve been following Alison for about 8 years now. Her Get Your Pretty On blog in the early days, her Outfit Formula emails, coffee chats, and OOTD’s on IG. Additionally I bought her book. I love her whole school of thought about a capsule wardrobe, only keeping the “heck yeah” pieces, and embracing the trends that feel right for me. Really enjoying her new podcast!

I learn something every show

I really love this show. I have learned a lot about myself and why I dress the way I do. Also, I have learned why I am afraid of dressing in ways that I may be noticed.
