With his financial background and data modeling expertise, Chris Barber, a Microsoft MVP, explores the irony of his journey to discover the optimal data model, a task that requires both technical knowledge and a judgement call, to uncover the key to his clients' successful decision-making.
Chris Barber is a Microsoft MVP and chartered accountant with a Masters in analytics. He has presented at Microsoft Reactor and the London Business Analysts Group, and runs the website Starchema.co.uk, which has over 1000 people taking his finance course. He specializes in large scale data modeling and financial reporting.
Chris Barber was always interested in Power BI and data modeling and sought to gain a more in-depth understanding of the tabular engine and business problems. Through his Masters in analytics and working in finance, he developed a deeper understanding of Power BI and data models. He now works with large scale clients as a consultant and is passionate about understanding business problems and creating data models to meet them. He's learned that there is no quick fix to creating data models, but that it requires an understanding of the problem and a lot of practice. He has seen both the successes and failures of data models in Fortune 500 companies and believes that the trend of self-service and departmental data models will continue in the future, offering many opportunities for business owners.
