A Song of Gratitude or Shame (Isaiah 26)

One would think the coming of Jesus would only be met with gratitude, but Isaiah chapter 26 (as well as various New Testament passages) testifies of varying responses. The context of the passage speaks to a song that will be sung when Christ returns at His second advent and to establish His kingdom; however, there is no doubt practical application to us concerning when Christ will return at the blessed hope. What will our response be when He comes?

When Israel Forgot (Ezekiel 16:1-63)

God found Israel after she had been cast aside and left for dead! He cleaned her up, fed her, and clothed her. As she grew up, he decked her out and made her beauty to be a sight to behold. Sadly, she became enamored with her beauty and the attention she received from the world. The world that had cast her aside now became her desired companion and she forsook the One who had helped her and made her what she was. In other words, Israel forgot where she came from and the source of her help. There is much to be learned from this for the New Testament Christian!

Have Mercy Upon Me (Psalm 51)

David had sinned against the Lord, but was unaffected by his wickedness. God sent a prophet to confront him and present a scenario of a sin that had occurred in his kingdom (it was David's sin, but under the guise of another sin). When David learned that it was him that was guilty before God and that he had been found out, he pleaded for mercy! The consequences of David's sin would remain, but he would live to see another day and be on the receiving end of God's mercy.
