    The Light & The Darkness

The Light & The Darkness | The Autistic Mile Parenting is filled with moments of incredible joy, but it can also carry challenges that few people outside the family ever see. In this episode of The Autistic Mile, we explore “The Light & The Darkness” of raising an autistic child. We talk about the love, pride and unforgettable moments that bring light to the journey, while also acknowledging the stress, uncertainty, exhaustion and difficult decisions that can exist alongside them. For parents, the journey doesn't happen in isolation. They are often balancing the needs of their autistic child while raising other children, maintaining careers, managing relationships, handling finances and simply trying to keep everyday life moving forward. This episode isn't about choosing between the light and the darkness. It's about recognizing that both can exist at the same time. A parent can be incredibly proud of their child while also feeling overwhelmed. They can celebrate progress while worrying about the future. They can experience exhaustion while still finding the strength to keep going. And through all of it, there is love. Join us for an open and personal conversation about the side of autism parenting that deserves to be heard, understood and supported. Every Mile Matters. The Ideal-ist: Episode 5 (Zooble)

Welcome back to The Ideal-ist, the YouTube Shorts companion series to The Autistic Mile. In this series, Shane Gaffney explores the characters, games, shows, and stories that have profoundly resonated with him—not simply because they’re entertaining, but because they reflect aspects of the way he experiences and interprets the world as an autistic person. Each episode uses a piece of media as a springboard for discussing psychology, personal values, lived experiences, and the unique connections we can form with fictional characters. In this episode, Shane turns his attention to Zooble from The Amazing Digital Circus. Blunt, irritable, and frequently unwilling to play along with the chaos surrounding them, Zooble may initially appear simply cynical or antisocial. Beneath that abrasive exterior, however, lies a character wrestling with discomfort with their appearance, frustration at being misunderstood, and difficulty finding a way to comfortably exist within an environment they never chose. Shane discusses why these elements of Zooble’s character resonate with him and how their struggles can reflect experiences that may feel familiar to some autistic individuals—from exhaustion with social expectations to the difficulty of loving oneself in the face of perceived rejection. Whether you’re a fan of The Amazing Digital Circus, autistic yourself, or simply interested in the different ways people connect with fictional characters, this episode offers another glimpse into how a character who appears prickly on the surface can express something deeply human underneath. #TheIdealist #TheAutisticMile #Autism #ActuallyAutistic #AutisticPerspective #Zooble #TheAmazingDigitalCircus #TADC #CharacterAnalysis #Neurodiversity #AutismAcceptance #Psychology
