    This installment of The Axis Effect features Jolyon Collier, President & Founder at Counting Coral. Global warming has damaged climates all around the world, and Fiji is no exception, where coral falls victim to rising sea temperatures, weakening them and increasing their likelihood of mortality. But the harm goes beyond coral, as the species’ role of housing 25% of all other marine species and their ability to protect coastal communities in Fiji by acting as a natural barrier for tsunamis and erosion demonstrate just how vital coral is to the ecosystem. This is where Counting Coral comes in, whose Gene Bank System project aims to regrow the damaged coral reefs and preserve biodiversity, giving the ecosystems damaged by humanity a second chance.
