EP 58 Close Encounters of the Marine Kind part 2

EP 58 Close Encounters of the Marine Kind part 2

This episode is a continuation of the theme,  close encounters of a marine kind, from Episode 56, which I recorded with my friends, John and Jennifer.

I thought I’d start out telling one or two of my own stories of scuba diving with my family; I was certain that recalling these events would be like an easy drift dive in the crystal clear waters of a Florida Spring, however, as I sat down to take notes, it felt more like doggie - paddling in the murky water of my memories. I could recall the events - but few of the details!
I thought it might be helpful, and maybe a little more entertaining, if I invited my daughter, Baylee, and son, Austin, to join in on the conversation.

Be sure to listen to the end when I sit down with my soulmate Ernie to tell me about a once-in-a-lifetime dolphin encounter while aboard - of all things - an aircraft carrier!

Are you ready to swim with the barracudas, pet some manatees, and watch a pod of dolphins? Put on your swim fins, and let's go for a dive!

EP 56 Close Encounters of the Marine Kind (Part One) with John Bailey and Jennifer Young

EP 56 Close Encounters of the Marine Kind (Part One) with John Bailey and Jennifer Young

I was on an exercise power walk on the beach (which is really kind of a misnomer because I stop so much to take pictures and videos - I’m not sure how much “exercise” I’m getting!) brainstorming themes for the podcast when I began thinking about all the marine life in the ocean, which got me thinking about SCUBA diving, and of course, our friends John Bailey and his wife Jennifer Young immediately came to mind because, well - they are super into diving. I knew they would have some cool stories to tell.
I decided to call the episode “Close Encounters of the Marine Kind” - and it would probably need to be in two parts:  one where they tell their stories, and then  I can share mine!
John and Jennifer live outside of Tampa - they're part of a group of our close friends that I call our  “Tampa/St Pete crew”
John, an environmentalist who studied at the University of Florida is an exceptional underwater marine photographer
Jennifer is a network engineer who is exceptional at shooting lionfish and swimming with (and dare I say swimming from?) sharks!
It’s been a long time since I’ve been SCUBA diving - crazy, right? I mean, I live in Florida! The beach is clearly saying to me, “It's time to update your PADI certification!"
Stay tuned for Part Two coming up next, where I relive some of my own close encounters of the marine kind. I might even have a few surprise guests!

EP 55 Sound Baths and Listening to the Heartbeat of the Ocean

EP 55 Sound Baths and Listening to the Heartbeat of the Ocean

Remember the commercial for Calgon bath powder?  The one where a woman, totally frazzled and exhausted from the day's chaos, cries out: “Calgon, take me away!” Then she magically appears in a bubble bath, soaking in an oasis of relaxing healing water.
When I was a kid, I thought it was just a funny commercial, but over the years, when I became that frazzled, exhausted woman, “Calgon, take me away!” had a brand new meaning. The idea of a bubble bath that could magically transport me to a beach oasis was no longer funny - it was necessary.
A few years ago, when I was deep into learning about mindfulness, meditation, and energy healing - I discovered a new kind of “bath” - sound baths.

    In this episode, you'll hear:
    -  How I discovered this magical elixir that’s like "Calgon for the soul"  - My profound sound bath experience on the beach -  What a sunrise sound bath on the beach REALLY sounds like!- BONUS: ocean sounds, crystal bowls and Shanti bellsI really hope you enjoyed this "Calgon Take Me Away" sunrise sound bath on the beach episode, and if you’re into it, I’d love to share more sound bath experiences with you!

Go to my website https://thebeachspeaks.com/ and click the subscribe button:  I will send you a message letting you know when I’m offering my next sound bath event, and I will also include a personal beach meditation that you can listen to any time.

EP 54 What's So Great About Maui? with Cathi Taucher

EP 54 What's So Great About Maui? with Cathi Taucher

Aloha Beach Lovers!   I’ve been talking a lot about the not so fun aspects of beach life - hurricanes.   I thought you might need a break from that and want to hear more about the more pleasant aspects of beach life, so I called Cathi - my go-to beach travel expert and super fan of the podcast, because, lucky her, while we were battling hurricane force winds here, she was basking in the gentle island breeze - in Maui ,Hawaii!
I have to admit, I don’t know why Maui isn’t super high on my beach adventure bucket list. What is it about Maui that everyone I know wants to go there?
Fun fact:  According to statistics released by the state of Hawaii, last year nearly 2.3 million visitors set foot on the island of Maui  – put it this way, that’s the entire population of Houston, TX!
I read in a blog that "Out of the eight Hawaiian Islands, Maui is by far the most unique."  It said that "As soon as you step foot on the 'Valley Isle' you’ll understand why it deserves the title of the must-see island in Hawaii" -the pristine beaches, blue waves, lush forests, hidden waterfalls, and two volcanoes!
But wait, there’s more! Maui has been repeatedly voted number one by several travel magazines - and Travel + Leisure named Maui the 6th Most beautiful island in the world!
Ohhh, the most beautiful islands in the world?!  That sounds like a great topic for a  future episode! What do you think?   I’m definitely up for that, but for now. . .
Let’s find out what Maui is really like - from someone who’s right there - now!

EP 53 The Beach Spoke to Me in a Cat 4 Hurricane!

EP 53 The Beach Spoke to Me in a Cat 4 Hurricane!

A  friend of mine from “up North” asked me what’s it like to be in a hurricane? That got me thinking about my past 22 years living in Florida. How many hurricanes had I been in?
I grew up in the mountains of Pennsylvania. The only “natural disasters” I ever experienced were blizzards - which were fairly common and not all that disastrous. It wasn’t until I moved to Florida that I had ever been in an actual natural disaster - a hurricane.
I had just moved to Orlando  when four hurricanes  rolled through Florida - one right after the other:

    Charlie, Francis, Ivan, and Jeanne.

Don’t you love how hurricanes have “everyday” names?

It makes sense to give hurricanes a name because it makes it really easy to talk about them later, like: “Remember when Andrew came one night and took our roof ?” Or, “Katrina - yeah - she was bad”

And, like people, hurricanes have different personalities, are difficult to predict, and you never quite know what they’re going to do.

In this episode, I tell my story of two significant hurricanes in my life (so far): my first, Charley, and my last, Ian.

The hurricanes were roaring, the beach was speaking, and I was listening!

Delightful and calming

On a cool autumn day, on the east coast, I listened to The Beach Speaks. I was transported to a beach in Puerto Rico and I listened to a heartfelt conversation about stress and what is truly important in life. I look forward to incorporating this beach-inspired uplifting podcast into my life.

Awesome awesome awesome…

What an incredible respite from my day…to be working from home, but actively listening to this podcast. Just hearing people talking about the beach, metaphorically and figuratively, relaxed me. I pulled up the blinds and opened my window to listen to people walking by and the breeze flowing through my house. The episode with Judianne Dunlap just ended, and I’m going to take off my shoes, walk around my yard, sit with my mango tree and dangle my feet joyfully into the pool.

I have to come on your show if you’ll have me b/c I am so lit up about your show!

Thank you Paige!
