Talking about Bible stories is often fraught with scholarly nerd alerts about ancient linguistics and inaccessible theological discussions centered around hermeneutics. But what if there was a way to use your pop culture literacy to enhance your biblical literacy. What if you could recap the Bible like you recapped your favorite TV show? Welcome to the Bible Binge hosted by Knox McCoy and Jamie Golden of The Popcast.
Faith Adjacent: Thanksgiving
Pull up a chair and settle into a tryptophan fever-dream as we feast on the faith adjacency of the Thanksgiving meal. We’re covering a cornucopia of topics from the creation of our national holiday and the origins of green bean casserole to the real story behind the first Thanksgiving. The truth might be messier and more complicated than our narrative of fellowship and unity, but together let's create a fuller, more inclusive table where all are welcome.
The Fiery Furnace
Grab your lyre and gather ‘round the furnace because we’re firing up another episode! When word reaches the king that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refuse to bow down to his new gold statue, fiery hijinks ensue. Daniel might be mysteriously MIA throughout the ordeal, but there’s another in the fire - Is it Jesus?
Favored or Forsaken: #MakeJesusViral / Faith-Based: The Movie
This episode takes a look at Gabe Poirot and the new wave of Christian Tik Tok influencers to decide if the #MakeJesusViral movement is inspired, dangerous, or a blurry mix of both. Then, we chat Faith Based the movie, as well as the Christian film industry. Plus, a bonus conversation about Matthew McConaughey’s faith discussion on Joe Rogan’s podcast.
This 11th season of The Bible Binge is all about that reader of dreams, tamer of lions and prognosticator supreme, Daniel. With the Babylonian takeover plan in full effect, Daniel and his bffs are peacefully living in captivity, but things get dicey when King Nebuchadnezzer’s melatonin refuses to kick in. It’s up to Daniel to interpret the King’s troubling dreams...or else.
Faith Adjacent: Mister Rogers
It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, won’t you join us as Host Erin Moon studies the life of the beloved Mister Rogers? There is no one better to remind us of our own capacity for human kindness than this modern-day disciple, and in today’s episode we’ll learn the true meaning of compassion and how to be a neighbor.
Last on our list is John. Son of Thunder, Beloved One, the Disciple Jesus Loved - we could dedicate this entire episode just to his nicknames, but instead let's chat about his biggest adventure with Jesus, The Transfiguration. What happens when you get Jesus’ inner circle, 2 Old Testament prophets, and God up on a mountain? We’ll find that out, plus what happened after the story.

Lengthy review because I love this podcast!
I grew up Catholic and went to Catholic school til 8th grade. I spent my 20s being a total a-hole about God. Now that I’m 33 I am coming back around to my faith (and thank God for His grace & mercy in waiting for me). This podcast is right up my alley. I’ve actually never read the Bible cover-to-cover. That is what I am doing now. I only listen to the episodes that cover what I’ve already read because I really want to read it for myself first. Anyways, the facial reactions I’ve made while reading the Bible have been wide-ranging and plentiful. I’ve also been so moved & gotten teary-eyed, and I haven’t even gotten to the NT yet. I LOVE this podcast because it speaks my language when it comes to how I am going through the Bible. I believe in God and consider myself a Christian, but you gotta admit some of these events & people in the Bible are whack! I appreciate their humor SO MUCH and they make me laugh out loud, but I also love their “So What, Who Cares?” segment because those have been some of the times where their insight and poignancy have seriously brought me to tears. I love the fact-checking Gentle Rebuke segment, but I do wish it was more than that. The first Bible scholar I felt really checked their tone for inadvertent sacrilege. That’s just something I would like more of so I can know how to think of God and His nature. THANK YOU, KNOX & JAMIE, for this wonderful podcast that has been the perfect sidekick to my reading the Bible.
Love this podcast, especially the favored or forsaken and faith adjacent episodes!
I just discovered this gem! I’m trying to eliminate unnecessary expenses (I got rid of cable) and also detoxify my brain from Social Media mess! Podcast & good old fashioned reading are my new M.O while also shifting my focus towards gratitude & kindness.I’ve only listen to one episode-Adam &Eve. I will be trying to listen to these in order. The content was great & I loved the humor. I keep picturing the Bible story books that were in the doctors and dentists office of my childhood. I’m hoping you’ll make a reference to those at some point. Thanks for your hard work!
