    Grace drinks matcha, definitely does not drink ketchup juice, and absolutely regrets the lot. That was the takeaway from her visit to The Big Breakfast Blaa studio this morning for Friday, June 26th. Following a delicious string of hot days, Grace has been to the beach (she met some nice new friends!) Staving off the heat, she ordered a matcha and discussed the components of sweat, live on air.     Fenor's Scott Murray brings home the gold from the European Transplant Games

    Fenor's Scott Murray has just returned from representing Ireland at the European Transplant Games in the Netherlands. In 2022, Scott received a bone marrow transplant from his sister, Zola, following a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. After his intital treatment via chemotherapy was unsuccessful, it was necessary to look towards the possibility of a bone marrow transplant. New Chapter for Scott Murray Significant challenges were faced during both treatment and recovery, however Scott showed remarkable determination both in sport and in education. Today, although he brought home a wealth of gold medals from the European Transplant Games, he is poised to move into 6th year in Ardscoil na Mara, Tramore. Scott visited The Big Breakfast Blaa before he went to the Netherlands, and once he returned home, he came straight back in to the breakfast studio for a big chat. He used his platform to appeal to those who are in a position to be a donor, be it blood, platelets or other donations, to consider doing so. Play to listen back in full.     Olivia: The Little Girl Who Inspires the Waterford Community

    When Olivia was 3 she was diagnosed with severe Scoliosis and she underwent her first spinal surgery. She had a rod placed in her back and every 6 months has had to have more surgeries to lenghten the rod. Olivia's Spinal Surgery Olivia in the coming months has another big spinal surgery and will continue to need more. Olivia has had many stays in hospital and is the bravest girl who continues to smile throughout.She uses a bipap machine every night for her sleep apnea. Olivia has an amazing mam, Diane, who spoke with The Big Breakfast Blaa, dad (Tony) and sister Hannah. Diane is a SNA in a special school for 26 years and Tony works in the hospital. Transforming a Home for Olivia They live in a 2 storey house, her parents are carrying her upstairs to her bedroom/bathroom. This is not only physically demanding but poses serious safety risks to both Olivia and her caregivers, as she grows this approach will become increasingly unsustanable and unsafe. To ensure Olivia's safety, dignity and independence she needs a safe and accessible bedroom, fully adapted bathroom and a ceiling track hoist to allow her her to be safely transferred between the key areas of the home, and a suitable living space where she can be included in family life.  These changes aren't just about convenience they are essential.The builders have quoted €120,000 to complete these adaptations, sadly this is far beyond what Olivia's family can afford on their own.  To listen back to Diane on The Big Breakfast Blaa and to learn more about the fundraising efforts underway, play to hear in full.     Again building on the details recorded by the 1926 Census, we look at the life of Ballybricken fish and chip shop owner, Philomena Gater, as we learn about her marriage to Edward Gater and their business endeavours in the city. A time of great technological changes and advancements, which the fledgling Irish Free State was trying to get to grips with, we learn of the family’s brush with the law regarding the 1926 Wireless Telegraphy Act.     Waterford's Dáithí in the Race for DPD Ireland No.1

    Daithí Phelan, 'the Pride of Tramore' is in the running to become Ireland's No. 1 DPD driver. Tomorrow, June 23rd, he switches up his delivery route and heads for the roaring curves of Mondello Park instead. There, he will represent Waterford in the DPD Superdriver 2026 Championship. Daithí Not Phased by Competition Daithí faces competition as 32 drivers in the country are all competing for the number one spot. The overall winner will go on to the European Championships in Poland to fly the flag for DPD Ireland. Not one to be phased by competition, Daithí is confident of a win. Blind-folded Driving and other Terrifying Tasks! The question is, what will he need to do to secure the win? ... Drive blind-folded for one thing, amongst many, many other challenges in Mondello Park!! To make it this far, he has surpassed all targets set for drivers and he is an all-rounder in his community and on his delivery route.     Every Mile for Shane: Anthony Keyes’ Journey of Love, Loss and Gratitude

    Anthony Keyes will run an ultra-marathon on seven consecutive days from August 10th as a thank you to Waterford Hospice. The 'angels' in Waterford Hospice cared for Anthony's brother-in-law Shane McCarthy during his time in the Oak Ward, University Hospital Waterford. Shane died on December 27th, knowing he was loved beyond belief by his wife, his children and his extended family and friends. When words just aren't enough sometimes, actions speak louder.  It was this which drove Anthony to decide he would use his legs, determination, and stamina to raise money for Waterford Hospice a a thank you for the often thankless work they do, each and every day. This follows on from his fundraising efforts last year for the Solas Cancer Support Centre.
