    Women whip off the bras for Westlife

    Last night, Westlife took to the stage at the 3Arena in Dublin while a host of women littered the stage at their feet with bras. Grace, Ellen, and Mary Goes Nowhere were there (bras fully intact) and they reported back live to The Big Breakfast Blaa. Clad in their custom-made dressing gowns adorned with the floating heads of the Westlife singers, they painted a picture of a night featuring Garret Noone, Westlife, Mary's rollator (featuring lights and decorations) and matching pink hats. Ellen was quick to confirm at at €70 a pop, her bra was not being presented to Westlife, but they definitely danced and sang the night away. Play to listen back in full and soak up the atmosphere.     Waterford Buses to be 'Agents of Craic' tomorrow

    Tomorrow night to mark Culture Night, Waterford buses are to become 'agents of craic' between 6pm and 8pm. Commuters on the W1, W2, and W3 routes will see the bus transformed into a rolling musical and poetry stage. Musicians and poets will perform on the bus during its regular Friday evening commute on those routes and passengers are encouraged to bring along their favourite poem or to sing along. Prizes, lollipops are treats will be available for those who take part in the evening through contributing something on the night. Gráinne Kennedy is the Climate Action Officer with Waterford City and County Council and the entire event is her brainchild. Speaking on The Big Breakfast Blaa, she said she was inspired by videos of commuters in cities like London and New York who embrace ways to make the commute more exciting. Using examples like dressing up as Santa or holding fun signs, she said she knew Waterford was the place that would embrace a mad-cap idea like this. Creative Ireland got behind the initiative which incorporates positives steps for sustainability and introducing culture in an unexpected way. She was sure to give a big shout out to Bus Eireann and the bus drivers, who will be kept very entertained for a few hours on Culture Night, Friday September 18th.     WLR Celebrates World Barber Day!

    Today, September 16th is World Barber Day and we have been celebrating on The Big Breakfast Blaa! Ahmed from A-Class Barbers joined Geoff and Dymphna in studio to mark the opening of his second barbershop in Waterford City. He now proudly runs two outlets on Conduit Lane and Patrick Street offering the full Turkish Barber experience. A Turkish Barber differs from a traditional barber in what the offerings are, so in A-Class, people pop in for a hot towel shave, nose waxing, ear candling, beard fades, all manner of hair fades and a seemingly endless list of fade types for hair and beard. Ahmed explained the whole lot from start to finish, even giving Geoff a bit of advice on whether the popular mullet is a good one for him to revisit!     A notorious figure in Waterford city, Conny Mernin made national news on several occasions for his daring escapes from both Ballybricken and Clonmel jails. A life of crime began at an early age, his first arrest occurred when he was only 11-years-old. However, did a spell in reformatory and the penal system contribute to Mernin’s criminal activities rather than reform and rehabilitate him? Repeated attempts to better his lot appeared to be exacerbated by the society in which he inhabited… This is a truly sorry tale from the history books of Waterford on the harshness of the justice system and how it seems to have failed Conny Mernin and sealed his fate in life.     Four Wheels, Four Paws: Autoboland Ford Drives for Charity

    Autoboland Ford is putting the power of a test drive behind a very worthwhile cause this Saturday, September 19th at Costa Coffee in the Waterford Retail Park. The Waterford dealership is inviting members of the public to come along, get behind the wheel and take a test drive, while helping raise vital funds for Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind. For every test drive taken on the day, €30 will be donated by Ford to Irish Guide Dogs, meaning a simple spin could make a real difference. It’s a chance to check out the latest Ford models, speak with the Autoboland team and enjoy a test drive, all while supporting the incredible work carried out by Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind. Irish Guide Dogs provides life-changing services for people who are blind or vision impaired, as well as assistance dogs for families of children with autism. Shauna Reade from Autoboland Ford joined Ollie and Dymphna on air to look ahead to this weekend, with the full promise that no hard sell or pressure to buy a car will feature on the day.     Oasis Are Back! Colin Shanahan has lots to say...

    Oasis are back for 2027 with two nights in Slane Castle included as part of their much anticipated announcement. At 4pm yesterday, fans around the globe heard the news that following their reunion gigs in Croke Park, the Gallagher brothers would be back for a 38-gig tour. Pricing information has been released, and tickets will by no means be cheap, however the 'tiered' pricing system saw previously has been scrapped and tickets will range from €180 to just over €500. For Colin Shanahan (Waterford's answer to Noel Gallagher) and Mad Ferritt, the gig announcement couldn't have come more timely as this Friday to mark Culture Night, they will perform on the Theatre Royal stage at 8pm. As someone who has been shaped from a young age by the music of Oasis, Colin joined Ollie and Dymphna on air to reflect on the announcement, the cultural revolution of Oasis, and the rise and enduring success of Mad Ferritt.     Registrations for Run and Walk for Solas reach 1,000

    The annual Run and Walk for Solas registrations have now reached a whopping 1,000 participants. The run and walk with the Sea of Orange, takes place on Saturday October 10th in Dungarvan and on Sunday, October 11th in Waterford City. All proceeds raised go directly to the Solas Cancer Support Centre ensuring all services and supports are kept entirely free for clients affected by cancer and their families. Tracy McDaid, manager with the Solas Cancer Support Centre joined Ollie and Dymphna on air this morning to coincide with the week where t-shirts are being posted out to those who have registered. Each participant who registers online receives the iconic orange t-shirt as well as an exclusive finishers medal. Run and Walk for Solas Registration Online registrations offer three different options- the Run and Walk for Solas in Dungarvan, the Run and Walk for Solas in Waterford City, and the Virtual option to be completed at a time and date which suits the participant. Each location option then comes with a choice of Adult 10km Run or Walk, U18 Run or Walk, Adult 4km Walk and U18 4km Walk. Cost is €25 for the run and walk for adults and U18 entries are €15 for the Run and Walk. This year, a special call-out has been made for volunteer stewards to take part in assisting at the event. At least 3,500 participants are expected for the two events across the two days and so, in the region of 200 stewards are needed to keep the event safe and running smoothly, with the assistance of Gardaí.     A Garden Grown With Love: Waterford Rallies Around Ellie

    Ellie (Eleanor) Denn is beloved by all who know her, as is evidenced by the speed with which the community grouped together to transform Ellie's garden into an oasis of calm. Following a cancer diagnosis, Ellie knew she had to get well and her aim following her treatment in Dublin was to get work done on her garden in the hope of making memories with her children. Enter the Whatsapp group and a host of family members, friends, and the wider business and sporting community of Waterford. They worked day and night while Ellie was in Dublin and on the day she returned home, it was to an entirely new garden. Grace, who is Ellie's cousin joined Ollie and Dymphna for a special 'Feel Good Friend' buzz where she recounted the story. It is heartwarming, affirming, and filled with love.
