The Breast Talk Ever with entrepreneur Melissa Boratyn: Feature Film, Ginger

Despite being told she was too young to have cancer, in 2011 at the age of 23, filmmaker Melissa Boratyn was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer.  The cancer would eventually return and metastasize not once but twice.  The trials and tribulations she faced dealing with the pesky disease inspired Melissa and co-director, her husband Jimmy to flip the script and put young breast cancer support and advocacy on the big screen with the movie Ginger.  The award winning feature film has been screened all over the world. Ginger can now be viewed through Amazon or Tubi.

The Breast Talk Ever with entrepreneur Karen Lindsey: Nerak Natural Essence

The Breast Talk Ever with entrepreneur Karen Lindsey: Nerak Natural Essence

In 2003 Karen Lindsey, a longtime professional development educator in The Department of The Treasury, received a stage 3 HER2 positive breast cancer diagnosis. Her treatment plan included four surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The radiation severely inflamed her skin. When none of the creams recommended by Karen’s doctor worked, her extremely burned skin sparked the idea to get in the kitchen and experiment with natural ingredients. After lots of testing, in 2004 Karen whipped up the winning formula for a cream that soothed and healed her skin. Today Nerak Natural Essence provides extraordinary results to satisfied radiation patients across the U.S.

Episode 4 NERAK Natural Essence

Necessity is the mother of invention. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, this is an expression that means that if you really need to do something, you will think of a way to do it. A podcast was created because someone wanted to provide useful information to an audience through a streaming application. The Breast Talk Ever podcast was created by LaTonya Davis to provide medicine for the soul and hope to breast cancer survivors.
Episode 4 of the podcast series features NERAK Natural Essence lotion created by Karen Lindsey, a 16-year cancer survivor. She is a teacher, project manager and entrepreneur who created her soothing lotion out of pure necessity. During her radiation treatments, her skin burned badly. With no relief coming from what the doctors prescribed, Karen literally took things into her own hands. After much research and experimentation in her own kitchen, she whipped up a special concoction of essential oils, aloe vera and vitamins that offered relief. Now she wants to share her product to help prevent unnecessary suffering for patients undergoing radiation treatments.
Listening to the interview made me laugh and made me cry. I laughed out loud when Karen asked her doctor not to sedate her too much for the procedure because she wanted to go shopping afterwards. Who does that? I was moved to tears when Karen described how she was diagnosed with breast cancer. You should listen to Ms. Davis’ podcasts because they really do help navigate this business called life as her web site states. And if necessity is the mother of invention, then the Breast Talk Ever podcast is just what the doctor ordered.

Extraordinary, impressive, marvelous....

Who would have guessed that these amazing survivors ever had breast cancer??? The promise of a crisis is that it will pick us up and deposit us on the other side of something...These phenomenal individuals didn’t just go through the journey, they trusted their intuition and began their business as a result of their diagnosis. They identified a need and found a way to help other cancer survivors.. This podcast celebrates these courageous entrepreneurs and LaTonya Davis uses her witty marketing ability, entrepreneurial spirit and her brilliance to inspire us all..I cry with each episode, but I am so encouraged by each of their stories.
