As a pardoned January 6 Capitol rioter, right-wing activist, and GOP Florida Senate candidate, Lang organized the demonstration to protest fraud in Minnesota’s social services programs, targeting immigration policies and the Somali-American community. With plans to burn a Quran on the steps of City Hall and march to the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood—home to the city’s largest Somali population—the rally drew a massive counterprotest from hundreds to thousands of pro-immigration and anti-ICE demonstrators. Key facts from the event: Lang and his small group of about 10 supporters were vastly outnumbered, leading to the rally being cut short. Counterprotesters pelted Lang with water balloons, iceballs, and other objects.
