    Follow the fun

    Follow the fun

Too often we have a narrative that work should feel like work. That fun is something that happens outside of our job. But operating from this belief creates a reality where work is indeed not fun. What you think you create. The simplest way to describe the process of creating an energizing career you love is to follow the fun.

    In this episode I discuss:
How I define fun - it’s not at odds with impact or salaryHow to figure out WHAT feels funHow the current career landscape allows for so much more fun that ever beforeThe difference between jobs that feel fun and jobs that we tell ourselves are ‘right’When to make a strategic move in your career

    How to achieve any goal

    How to achieve any goal

Oftentimes the reason we aren’t taking action is because we’re worried about what could go wrong and how we will feel when it does. But if we accept that life is a 50/50 split of comfortable and uncomfortable emotions - no matter if we stay where we are or go for the goal - then it starts to shift the way we perceive doing new things. In order to achieve any goal we have to welcome the uncomfortable feelings that come with doing something new. And if you want to learn how to do this then have a listen.

    In this episode I discuss:
How to see failure in a way that supports you to take action instead of scaring you into inaction. My own experience launching a podcast and building a business and what it’s taught me about mistakes and commitment. What we have to accept about creating new things. An exercise to help you evaluate the career ideas you have and what will be required to go after them. Are you ready to create an energizing career you love?

Letting go of your parents' opinions

Letting go of your parents' opinions

Oftentimes the reason we’re stuck in our careers is because we’ve been building it against someone else’s model for success and fulfillment - and this model often comes, inadvertently, from the spaces where we were raised. If your parents have a lot of opinions, or if you find yourself anxious about pleasing your parents, you won’t want to miss this episode. As letting go of what they think you should do is essential to creating a career and life on your terms.

    In this episode I cover.
The model I was raised in and how this influenced my opinions about what I did early on in my career. The reactions that my parents had to my decision to become a coach The reactions my clients’ parents have had to their own career reinventionsWhat to remember and focus on if your parents’ second-guess the professional or personal decisions you’re making.Related episodes

Finding the bullseye with Nick Wellner

Finding the bullseye with Nick Wellner

When I met Nick he felt like he was treading water, clocking in and clocking out, looking up the corporate ladder without any real enthusiasm.
He felt like there was something missing.
After six months together Nick landed his dream job working in sports betting. He's stepped off the "career ski lift" and has created a career at the intersection of what he's naturally good at, what he's interested in, and his life priorities.

    Nick and I discussed:
The value of constantly checking in on how you’re feelingBeing true to yourself about what you’re good at and what you like to doHow he created the perfect role for himself through networkingThe importance of going for things that really align with your interestsWhat to focus on if you’re someone who avoids networking Are you ready to create an energizing career you love?

    Careers are like romantic relationships

    Careers are like romantic relationships

The process of building an energizing career you love is similar to the process of building a healthy, thriving, romantic relationship. This is good news. Because you have already had practice understanding yourself and building romantic relationships and so this experience can be applied to many of the core challenges you face professionally when you feel lost, demotivated or burned out.
    In this episode I cover.
The five ways these two things in life are similarHow to take the wisdom you’ve developed through dating and building relationships and apply it to your careerRelated episodes

    Panic MBAs

    Panic MBAs

We hate the discomfort of feeling lost. And when we’re lost we don’t know where to start to fix it. This is why so many people reach for another degree - I did this, I did an MBA. Another degree feels like a socially-sanctioned way of addressing your lost feelings. But then why do so many people graduate no more wiser as to where they’re going and what they want? Why are there so many post-MBA students frustrated and lost in the 5 years after graduation? It’s because the MBA was selected in panic as the solution for feeling lost. I recommend avoiding this costly mistake.

    In this episode I cover.
Why we tend to reach for secondary-degrees when we’re feeling professionally lost. The impact of panic MBAs on what you’re able to get out of the educational program. What to do instead when you feel lost professionally. How to decide on a secondary degree in a productive, intentional way.Related episodes

Egoldman ,

Interesting. Insightful. Actionable.

Have known Anne for a few years, and we’ve got some shared areas of interest, so chatting with her is always fun and eye opening for me.

Gave her podcast a listen and it was exactly the same experience. The procrastination episode was wonderful. Love how Anne so seamlessly weaves in concepts from psychology and brain chemistry, mindfulness and meditation, and time management to build a simple and compelling coping strategy with such a common and challenging issue.

Thanks Anne. Great job! 😍
