The Casey Catch up with Eric Sterman

The Casey Catch up with Eric Sterman

A great catch up with Eric Sterman, running us through his local downwind runs, how it differs in different conditions and his progressions based on using different equipment. Eric was first exposed to foiling when working on the film crew for Robby Naish's Longest Wave Movie. This was early days and he has been through a lot of progression and learning since then.He shares some advice on equipment and how gear will work for some people but not for others. The trick is trying a bunch of gear and seeing what clicks for you. We get into the downwind runs Eric learnt on and he gives some really good insight on different spots to chip in for the Turtle Bay Run and a few tips on angles to run as you go down the coastline. Was awesome to get a comparison on the North Shore Downwind Runs to the South Shore Downwind Runs on Oahu and how both compare to the Gorge. All in all was a fun and chat, take some time out and enjoy this fortnight's Catch Up.If you'd like to learn how to downwind foil I'd love to hear from you and help you undertake your journey. Get in touch via email info@caseyaus.com or head to my website www.caseyaus.com and check out the Coach Casey Club for basic and premium options. The Casey Catch Up with Greg Closier

The Casey Catch Up with Greg Closier

Stoked to catch up with Greg Closier, a downwind foiling pioneer, foilboard designer and participant in the first ever week long SUP downwind foiling event organised by the French Surfing Federation. I enjoyed discussing board design with Greg, unpacking some of the runs he has downwind foiled both in Brest, France, and LA, USA, and what conditions he is looking for and what equipment he uses depending on ocean or bay runs. Towards the end we go into how the event played out, what he learnt from the experience and ways to improve it for next time. All in all I really enjoyed catching up with Greg and look forward to joining him on some of the downwind runs we discussed and hopefully compete in some events with him down the track. The Casey Catch Up with Michael Booth

The Casey Catch Up with Michael Booth

Multiple SUP Race world Champion Michael Booth joins us to discuss downwind foiling and how he really enjoyed the learning process. While it wasn't easy at first he learnt a lot of good lessons along the way that he shares with us. We discuss how winging can be a good way to help learn but it isn't necessarily for everyone. We then discuss Molokai 2 Oahu 2019 and the battle we had as we watched the foilers fly by us. We finish with a bit of a discussion on what what the future of Foiling and SUP events are going to look like and how we both feel it important to help grow it for the future generations. While I do really enjoy these chats I have had to make them a fortnightly instead of weekly occurrence as I work on my online coaching platform. I've got a good list of potential guests coming up so I am excited for what is to come. If you'd like to learn how to downwind foil I'd love to hear from you and help you undertake your journey. The Casey Catch Up with Annie Reickert

The Casey Catch Up with Annie Reickert

Finally got a female on the show and it just happened to be the first female to foil the Channel of Bones in 2018 with just one months DW Foiling experience. A great chat with the talented young women Annie where we compare prone vs SUP DW Foiling, discuss the pros and cons of a slow foil and when you are ready to upgrade to a faster foil. We discuss the rise of winging which has seen more people get into DWing but the importance of showing the wingers the freedom of gliding down the coast without the wing. We then delve into other aspects of winging, back flips and self whip ins for windy waves finishing up with a bit of insight to Annie's big wave goals for this winter out Peahi. The Casey Catch Up with Jeremy Riggs

The Casey Catch Up with Jeremy Riggs

I had a great time chatting all things downwind with the SUP downwind guru and coach Jeremy Riggs. We went in depth on the technique of a Flatwater SUP Foil Paddle Pump, Take Off or Chip In (whatever you want to call it) and brought up the 'scoot' that Jeremy recently spoke about in his youtube and social media. We went into detail on the differences between a flatwater paddle pump to a bumpy water paddle pump and some good techniques to try in the surf zone. I tried to get Jeremy to try a Wing, Deflate, Downwinder but he is still a little sceptical but I explain why I think it could be the future. All in all was great to catch up and break down the technique of SUP Foiling with Jeremy. If you are enjoying these episodes it may be worth having a look at the Coach Casey Club where you will enjoy a step by step guide on how to DW Foil: https://caseyaus.com/products/coach-c...
