A Christian podcast where we discuss apologetics, controversial topics, and church related topics in a respectful way from a Biblical perspective.
Ep 172 - A NEW Apologetics Ministry for You and Your Church (interview with Dr. Jonathan McLatchie)
Dr. Jonathan McLatchie is the founder of a very interesting and new apologetics ministry called Talk About Doubts. They have an entire faculty read to engage over phone/zoom/in-person to discuss doubts people have. This can supplement churches and just help those that have no one else to ask. Dr. McLatchie also has a PhD in Biology and does debates with atheists on the evidence for God. We discuss his recent debate with Alex O'Connor (aka Cosmicskeptic), irreducible complexity, non-resistant non-believers, evidentialism, presuppositionalism, and a Q&A session at the end since this was recorded live.
Ep 170 - The Impact of ”Original Sin” on Jesus, Mary, Babies, Desire, Responsibility, & Doctrine
We have talked about this doctrine on a few episodes, but never gave a full breakdown of our full belief and rationale until now. We dive into the doctrine of original sin, coined by Augustine of Hippo. We review scripture and the ramifications of such a doctrine on Jesus and his birth, Mary, babies (especially ones who pass away), desire and the causes of sin, our responsibility for sin and why we have no excuse, and other doctrines that are created or conflict with this presupposition.
Ep 169 - SCOTUS and Roe v. Wade (Interview with Attorney Katherine Henry)
Christians and other pro-life groups have fought for years to see Roe v Wade overturned. In this episode the Church Split is joined with Constitutional Attorney Katherine Henry to discuss the recent decision to overturn Roe V Wade, how it relates to the constitution itself, and the political implications of this decision. This was a huge win for the pro-life cause but the fight isn't over.
Ep 168 - Is ”Once Saved Always Saved” Biblical?
We have been asked about this topic many times and we felt it was finally time to do a deep dive into what we believe on this topic. We go through numerous Bible references as we examine if a believer can forfeit their faith. We will review common objections from both sides. Even though there is disagreement in the body of believers on this doctrine, the end result for the believer is the same regardless of which side you fall under: Focus on your faith, cling to Jesus, submit to God's Word, produce good works from your faith, and give the gospel to to unbelievers.
Ep 167 - Responding to the 21 Most Common Abortion Arguments
With the impending potential overthrow of Roe v. Wade, we go through all the common pro-abortion arguments and give you methods on how to respond. We give overall discussion strategies, statistics, and even the most commonly used Bible verse taken out of context to support abortion. We address the 21 most arguments and then give you the SLED test for easy categorization of pro-choice arguments.
Ep 166 - Romans 9 with Jordan Ferrier
Jordan Ferrier comes back on the channel to discuss with Brian his take on Romans 9. We focus primarily on the context of Romans 9, Romans in general, the state of Jewish/Gentile relationships at this time, and how this should affect our view of Romans 9. We all understand Romans 9 is weighing in on a controversy, let's make sure we know which controversy it is. Yes we do address Pharaoh, Isaac, Jacob and Esau, and God's calling.
Definitely never disagree with anything you say
I love your podcast and I love that there is never a time when you guys are controversial. Keep up the good work. Thank you for helping me challenge my view on certain aspects of the Bible.
Calling a spade a spade
Funny thing. I heard about Church Split by listening to the episode on RFP referencing CS doing an episode abt the apostasy of Eric S from Preacher Boys and how RFP listeners were upset abt the episode. That tells me all I need to know abt the general RFP listener. Absolutely thorough and articulate handling of Eric’s apostasy. It’s not a coincidence that reformed theology can lead to agnosticism. Especially when the person moving from the former to the latter is led by emotions. People led my emotions are more likely to find themselves easily swayed by human opinion and have a difficult time reconciling their emotional opinion with the reformed concept of the sovereignty of God. In my opinion, a mental break happens at that point. Leading to agnosticism. Church Split did an incredible job with that episode. And it’s to the RFP’s discredit that they were not brave enough to address the same topic re: Eric.
