    The Science of Why Some Spaces Feel Sacred (Neuroarchitecture & Temple Acoustics) TC159

    Why does some space feel sacred — and why doesn't every temple? Most people say "good vibes." The science says something else entirely. Every time I have walked into a place that feels deeply peaceful — a temple, an old library, someone's quiet study — I have caught myself thinking the same thing. Why is this so peaceful? Most people I know answer that with vocabulary I have never found satisfying. "Good vibes." "Positive energy." "The aura of the place." But that explanation has a problem. Not every temple feels sacred. Not every meditation space makes your shoulders drop. There are temples in India — same religion, same deity, same six hundred years of history — where one moves you to silence and the other feels like a tourist photo opportunity. If the feeling were purely about divinity, every temple dedicated to the same god would feel identical. They don't. So what is the actual mechanism? This episode is the result of months of reading peer-reviewed neuroscience, acoustic engineering studies, and environmental psychology — looking for an honest answer to that question.
