TCP Artist Interviews - Valeriya Voronova: Writer, Actor, Director

Valeriya Voronova is a writer, actor, and director based in NYC.

She studied at The Institute for Performing Arts in Moscow, concentrated on acting, stage speech, choir, stage combat, and fencing. She left prematurely after receiving a scholarship for The Institute for American Musical Theatre in New York, which focused primarily on musical theatre.

Once in New York, Valeriya furthered her acting studies with Pamela Scott and Jeff Passero, and did multiple musical theatre intensives, including Broadway Dreams and Actors Therapy.

Also involved in voiceover, she voiced a Russian character in the video game for “World War Z”, and narrates for animation and documentaries.

Valeriya eventually became involved in immersive theatre - a strong passion - while still maintaining survival jobs during the pandemic. She has had to lie about being sick, in order to make it to rehearsals, an outrageous number of times.

“Call Us Villains” is Valeriya’s directorial debut, based on her book “Before You Call Us Villains”, which she worked on for 9 years and is finally in the editing stages.

Since then, he’s performed in cities across the country and, finally, finding himself back home in Brooklyn, NY.

Carl is currently the host of Another Shade of Crime Podcast (Apple/Spotify), donning himself “The Voice of Black True Crime.”
