    The Mobile Payments and the new Bubble episode

    Google launches Google Wallet, a consumer based app with nearfield payments, and Square launches their iPad register. Is this the next step into all of us having a Google Life? Instapaper decides to pull their free app and only offer their paid version of the app. Bryan and Chez discuss the learnings we can take from that. Bryan asks whether we're in a bubble and what this means for the next thirty years in the mobile industry. They also look at boring / mainstream adoption as a success metric.

    The Stuff the Mobile Web Episode

    Brian Fling and Cheryl Gledhill talk about the mobile web vs native applications. The mobile web is great in theory but they've run into issue after issue in trying to develop mobile apps using the mobile web over native functionality. Brian questions whether JavaScript is the new frontier to solving mobile problems - do we forget the last decade of mobile development in light of JavaScript's new capabilities. They also discuss mobile web frameworks such as Sencha Touch, JQ Touch and PhoneGap. They question whether we should provide the most compatible experience across devices or the best experience we know is possible on specific devices. Brian demos Sniffer (sniffer.pinchzoom.com), pinchzoom's browser based app that detects CSS properties in browsers for cross-device testing.

    pinch/zoom Product Manager Bryan Zug (@bryanzug) and Design Director Kevin Tamura (@ktamura) joins host Brian Fling (@fling) to talk about a number ways mobile is changing how we think of privacy, content, consumerism and cameras. First up we talk about the recent iPhone privacy scandal. Are we being tracked at all times? Is this anything new or are we just desperate for another iPhone story? Next we talk about how mobile is changing the way we read and shift content around our different devices. What is the role that apps like Instapaper and Readability will play in the future and how does that change the way we look at the data we call content? Finally we talk about iPhone becoming the top camera on Flickr, AT&T record quarter of smartphones, Verizon and ask the question, if Android is the top selling platform in the US, where is the proof?     Despite ducks quacking and impending flight to Australia, Brian (pinchzoom.com/​fling) and Chez (pinchzoom.com/​chezza) shot our fourth episode discussing what's next—how mobile is changing everything. First up, everyone is searching for answers, including at events like CTIA, SXSW and WWDC. But are the answers at these events? Is there something bigger happening that Web 2.0 or the dot-com boom before it? We also talk about the concepts behind responsive web design and how it differs from mobile design. Is this good or bad and what do people need to pay attention to? Chez tells a very heartfelt story of Twitter and the Japan Earthquake and how mobile technology can help us save lives. We revisit Twitter's dickbar fiasco one more time. While the dickbar might be gone, it still lives in infamy. Brian shares a quote from mobile developer Marco Arment that explains why. Brian talks about Mobile Intellectual Property (IP) and a recent issue pinch/zoom (pinchzoom.com) had our client portfolio. He explains how mobile projects differ from web projects in terms of protection. And finally Brian shares that his book is available online in its entirety for free at mobiledesign.org April 4, 2011
