126: The Incredible Women Doctors of the Church (w/ Terry Polakovic)

126: The Incredible Women Doctors of the Church (w/ Terry Polakovic)

In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by author and co-founder of ENDOW (Educating on the Nature and Dignity of Women) Terry Polakovic to tell the stories of some of the incredible women Doctors of the Church.

This is a really incredible episode. Terry is a fantastic storyteller and in this conversation she sets up these incredible women Doctors of the Church as the perfect antidote to some of the painful scandals, confusion of doctrine, and in-fighting taking place in the Church today – look to these, says Terry, these amazing "women of hope."

In this episode we dig into the lives of St. Teresa of Avila, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Therese of Lisieux, and St. Hildegard of Bingen as Terry explains how the incredible lives of these saints can provide us with a blueprint and a cause for hope when things both in the Church and the world seem to be a bit hopeless; these stories are a huge source of encouragement!

For more from Terry check out her book, Women of Hope from Our Sunday Visitor.

125: The Prayers, Actions, and Meaning of the Mass (w/ Jeffrey Pinyan)

In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by author and catechist Jeffrey Pinyan to talk about what's going on in the Catholic Mass. In this conversation, we dig into the first part of the Mass, the Liturgy of the Word. Jeffrey draws on Scripture, the Church Fathers, and the rich traditions of the faith to explain what each and every aspect of the Mass means – from actions like the sign of the cross to the importance of the Penitential Rite and everything in between.

Jeffrey is incredibly knowledgeable about exactly what's happening at Mass and his explanations will greatly enhance your understanding and appreciation for what's going on at Mass. A perfect guide for the non-Catholic Christian, new Catholic, or a Catholic who really wants to deepen their love for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

123: Why Do Catholics Make Such a Big Deal About Mary? (w/ Fr. Mauro Gagliardi)

123: Why Do Catholics Make Such a Big Deal About Mary? (w/ Fr. Mauro Gagliardi)

In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by the incredible Father Mauro Gagliardi, STD, Catholic theologian, to talk about Mary.

Fr. Gagliardi is the author of an enormous 1,000 page book on Catholic Dogmatic Theology and, within the context of this massive work, we're talking about his chapter on Mary. It's an absolutely fascinating discussion.

We talk about Mary's role in salvation history, the importance of her "yes" to God, her role as Mother of God, and the various Marian dogmas like the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption.

It's a great talk to help underscore exactly why Catholics make such a big deal about Mary – and her role in the Catholic Church today, which is always pointing back to Christ.

For more from Fr. Gagliardi, check out his incredible book Truth is a Synthesis: Catholic Dogmatic Theology from Emmaus Academic.

122: How and Why the Sacraments Make Sense (w/ Dr. Lawrence Feingold)

122: How and Why the Sacraments Make Sense (w/ Dr. Lawrence Feingold)

In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined once again by one of the Catholic Church's leading theologians (and one of my favourite guests) Dr. Lawrence Feingold. In this episode, we're talking about the Sacraments.

We go in depth on how and why the sacraments make sense including: how we know that Christ founded the sacraments, why Christ gave us the sacraments, what Protestant Christians are *missing* without the sacraments, and how exactly Christ meets us through the sacramental system He established.

Plus, we talk about the idea of "works" – are sacraments a "work" that Catholics have to do to be saved or to receive God's grace?

    It's a fantastic conversation!

For a limited time, listeners to this podcast can get 30% off *ALL* of Dr. Feingold's fantastic books from Emmaus Academic. Visit St. Paul Center and use coupon code: CordialCatholic30 at checkout. His latest book is Touched by Christ: The Sacramental Economy.

You can find more of his work including hours and hours of lectures at The Association of Hebrew Catholics.
