    GTA 6's Empowerment Conundrum: It's the Male Fantasy Versus the Feminist Myth. Which Side Will Rockstar Bless?

    The Grand Theft Auto franchise has always been controversial. Violence, misogyny, theft and bloodshed...it was the ultimate power trip for those feeling trapped by the mundanities of modern life. But now, GTA 6 is coming, slated for a 2026 release...and more than carnage and nihilism comes a different kind of outrage. Of the game's two playable stars, one is Lucia, a tough-as-balls gal--the first female, in fact, to ever lead the franchise. This could be great, with Lucia playing the perfect helpmate to Jason, her hunky co-star. Or, this could be very bad, with Lucia playing the demanding girl boss, or worse, the guilty conscience the series has always dodged before. Will picking up random girls be as fun with Lucia around? Will it be fun blowing away countless men as a smart n' sassy, belligerent feminist?     The gaming industry loves reboots, remakes, redos—any so-called classic from the past that can generate some easy cash. But though these rereleases supposedly honor what came before, they often do the opposite, serving only to obscure all memory of the originals.  It’s a rewriting of history, essentially, with the original development teams, scripts, art, and musical scores all lost in the wake of a remake that only serves itself.     Nintendo Both Impresses and Depresses With the Switch 2: Good Games, Lousy Prices

    Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Does Sonic's Third Film Blow Past its Predecessors...or Get Woefully Left Behind?

    The Sonic Trilogy--or, "Hollywood's Sonic" as coined by some--has always presented a rather, er, different spin on the classic character. More than cool and shrewd, this blue dude is young and playful and, really, just very lonely. But now, as of this third cinematic outing, the hedgehog's found himself a human family and a gang of furry kin--a team, so to speak, to take on the latest global threat. Yes, Dr. Robotnik is back, but this time it's Shadow who's the real powerhouse in a film that somehow manages to be both hilariously ridiculous and poignantly heartfelt. But does that mean it's good? Could Sonic 3 be the best film of the entire trilogy, the rare sequel to best its predecessors?
