The Dick Effect is a podcast that aims to decode the language of our society. Our everyday language is peppered with phrases that we don't think about before using. Whether it's men to women, women to women, men to men, people to people, there are dick things that we say to each other. We want to talk about this language, look at where it comes from and ask you all, just take a second to think about what it means to you before you use it again. Women swearing is so unladylike! Boys will be boys! Ah give us a smile love! I'm not like other girls! You'll feel different when it's your own! Grow some balls man! Are you on your period or something? Girls with tattoos are sluts!     Going Viral, the Strangest of Things

    In this episode, Abigail unpacks what it's like to go viral. A video on her science-themed TikTok blew up, clocking up 1 million in less than a week. We talk about how misinformation is amplified by the algorithm on social media, whereas factual content is left drifting far behind.  We also dip into the conspiracy theory that pushed her to make the viraltok. Spoiler alert... It's CERN and how they've opened portals to different dimensions. Double spoiler alert, CERN haven't done that! We will also take a break over the Summer to research some dickish things to come back with a new format for the Dick Effect! We feel that often when we cover a topic, there is much we have to miss out on due to time constraints, So we will come back with a series with more guests who will help us to explore the dickish things in society.     This months DCK effect is Like Culture. We talk through the evolution of the like button, the dawn of influencer culture and the pressures today to be a 'brand'. How have we coped in this new age where our self worth is quantified by the numbers on our social media account? Removing ourselves from these apps may benefit our self perception and wellbeing, but is that really an option? The world is now so reliant on social apps that it may not be possible to exit the influence. But can we be more responsible and humane in how we use them? This episode we explore our feelings and experiences with like culture. It's ok to want to be liked, but don't judge your self worth on a number from strangers.
