    Episode 309: Hard Redemption, Bad Voodoo, Jitters, Daggers Inn, The Deep Dark, The Hat Man, Freakd

    This week Mike and Amanda take a look at five new releases; click the links to see a trailer for each film! We kick off with HARD REDEMPTION (Fairway Film Alliance), in which Jino Kang and Lou Ferrigno battle a street gang in a high school. BAD VOODOO (Miracle Media) sees a woman kidnapped by three escaped convicts! JITTERS (Miracle Media) sees a detective battling a sinister AI app. DAGGERS INN (Seven Tales), in which an enigmatic young woman enters a quaint village and stirs things up! THE DEEP DARK (4Digital Media) is a French creature feature set in a coal mine! Our Short Shot is THE HAT MAN, in which a man's dreams turn to nightmares. And the DTV Throwback is the cruelly overlooked FREAKED, in which Bill and Ted's Alex Winter co-directs and stars as a pompous star who is subjected to terrible experiments.     Short Shots Episode 24: Martial Arts roundup!

    The Short Shots have been on a two year hiatus but its finally back in action! To celebrate, Mike and Rich take a look at ten short films, all with a martial arts theme. We've also updated the format for this podcast so it mirrors our main show, with a "Long Shot" and Throwback! You can check out each by clicking the links below: We kick off with TEMPORAL TAKEDOWN  [8 minutes] (Martin Sofiedal, 2025), a scifi infused fight movie; Next is LUCKY NIGHT: A JUNKERS TALE [12 minutes] (Nickolas Nielsen, 2021), which also has some impressive sci-fi trappings THE COUP [9 minutes] (Bel Uysal, 2026) finds 3 crooks all trying to steal an energy drink from a museum; BULLET STORM [13 minutes] (Tim Pek / Peter Phan, 2025) is about a hitman being forced to target a man who'd saved his life; PREVAIL [11 minutes] (Ryan Dalan, 2025) is a Filipino saga about 2 brothers; DAKOTA STONE [9 minutes] (Sherice Griffiths, 2025) is a noirish tale about a muscle for hire; THE PROTECTOR [7 minutes] (Bruce Chong, 2025) sees a young couple intimidated by a local gang; THE PROPOSAL [6 minutes] (Dan Liu, 2024) finds an agent in love with his partner, trying to find the right time to propose! Our Long Shot is the 35min NIGHT OF THE RONIN  [35 minutes] (Nathan Bender, 2024), in which an assassin tries to protect a woman from wave after wave of attackers. Our Short Throwback is HARDWAY: THE ACTION MUSICAL. [34 minutes] (Daniel Vogelmann, 2017). OBEX (Lightbulb Film Distribution) is a "low fi" science fiction movie about a man sucked into a retro adventure video game. BOSCO (High Fliers) is a prison drama centering on a man trying to escape. ELSE (Blue Finch Film Releasing) is  a French sci-fi movie in which people start merging with their environment... THE MONSTER WITHIN (Seven Tales)finds a young farmer stuck with a monster he must continue to feed.... SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT (Studio Canal) is the remake of the 1984 classic, from the director of The Domestics... Our Short Shot is POV, in which a camera-laden masked vigilante tries to stop crimes on Halloween... click the link to watch the whole short film! Our DTV Throwback is DIAMOND CUT DIAMOND, aka Witness to a Kill. This starts Gary Daniels as the Bond-esque Queen's Messenger and the whole film plays like a PM Entertainment entry. THE HUNTSMAN (High Fliers Films) sees Shawn Ashmore as an ICU nurse caring for a coma patient who may be a serial killer! BURY 'EM DEEP (High Fliers Films) is a western starring Robert Bronzi, on the trail of outlaws who robbed him! JIMMY AND STIGGS (Blue Finch Film Releasing) is a labour of love by director Joe Begos (VFW), who spent four years making it. But is it worth the effort? Take a listen for our take! GRIZZLY NIGHT (Lightbulb Film Distribution) is a drama based on the real life incident in 1967 when a national park suffered two deadly bear attacks in the same night. TIM TRAVERS AND THE TIME TRAVELLER'S PARADOX (GrimmVision) has the most unwieldy title and involves a mad/brilliant scientist trying to put paradox theory into practice! Our Short Shot is RESIDENCE, about a bunch of real estate agents being invited to view a new house on the market - with a deadly twist! Click the link to see the whole short film.     Episode 304: Stand Your Ground, The Knife, Reverence, A Gangster's Tale, Hermanita, Arctic Void

    Happy New Year, everyone! For our first episode of 2026, we are joined by special guest Ryan Verrill from Disc-Connected (all socials), who joins Mike and Steve to check out some new releases! As usual, click the link to see a trailer for each film.  We start with STAND YOUR GROUND (High Fliers Films), in which Daniel Stisen takes on a gang of white supremacists in order to defend his home! THE KNIFE (Signature Entertainment) finds a black family under the scrutiny of the police after a stranger is hurt during an invasive attack in their home. REVERENCE (High Fliers Films) finds an ex soldier at odds dogged detective while investigating the disappearance of his daughter. A GANGSTER'S LIFE (Miracle Media) involves two small time scammers in over their heads when they rip off a notorious and violent London mob boss. Our DTV Throwback is ARCTIC VOID, a Norwegian mystery film in which nearly all the passengers and crew of an arctic tourist vessel suddenly disappear, leaving a trio of film-makers marooned.     Episode 303: Wake Up Dead Man, Troll 2, Nightfall, End of Year Round-up

    Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, everyone! This is our final episode of 2025 and we've managed to get not only Rich back on, alongside Mike, Steve and Amanda, but also Nathan Lunn, who had previously joined us for our 300th episode! Unfortunately, however, the DTV market tends to dry up during the month of December so instead we have turned our attention to two highly anticipated films on Netflix - as usual, click the link to see a trailer for each film! We kick off with WAKE UP DEAD MAN (Netflix), the third "Knives Out" film and probably one of THE most anticipated films of the year, in which Daniel Craig returns as Benoit Blanc to solve a locked room murder mystery! Next is TROLL 2 (Netflix), Roar Uthaug's sequel to the well-received Norse Kaiju movie!
