The Everyday Creative

Evie and Emily Soape

At The Everyday Creative we believe that everyone is creative. Our creative acts often go unacknowledged and dismissed as daily problem-solving, but here they are celebrated. The Everyday Creative has two goals: to help you tap into creativity with actionable steps and advice. And we aim to help you (and ourselves) consume less. We believe that overconsumption affects happiness and the ability to thrive. Creativity, on the other hand, can increase happiness and lead to a more fulfilling life. So join us for biweekly episodes where we tackle a topic relating to creativity and consumption.

Episode 65: A Beginner's Guide to Strength Training

We all know strength training is important. It supports your bones, metabolism, brain, longevity, and even your confidence. And yet, actually starting can feel weirdly intimidating. If you haven’t started yet, it doesn’t mean you’re lazy. It doesn’t mean you don’t care about your health. It usually just means you’re missing one foundational layer: Overcoming resistance. In this episode, Emily and Evie break down how to move from knowing strength training matters to actually doing it — without overwhelm, burnout, or gym-timidation. This isn’t a technical “how to lift weights” walkthrough. It’s a mindset + strategy episode designed to help you build a sustainable strength practice.   Episode Highlights: Why commitment comes before confidence Why resistance is normal (and what it’s actually telling you) How to design your environment to reduce friction How to start strength training without overcomplicating it A simple beginner progression plan Common mistakes that derail momentum And FAQs   Helpful Links: Nerd Fitness Beginner Bodyweight Workout   Quick Win: Make a commitment to strength training and decide on your training environment.   For additional info, check out our show notes page: Episode 65: A Beginner’s Guide to Strength Training   Ready for More: Get your free assessment: The Clarity Compass - find out what’s blocking your clarity and take steps to move past it! Episode 64 | Ingredients for Change

Change is one of the most important and most misunderstood parts of being human. We’re taught how to earn degrees, build careers, and achieve goals… but no one teaches us how to change. And when life forces change upon us, whether through health challenges, loss of freedom, burnout, or simply outgrowing who we used to be, we’re often left overwhelmed and unsure where to begin. In this episode, Evie and Emily explore why change feels so hard (even when we want it) and introduce a simple but powerful framework to help you build an internal foundation for lasting evolution. This isn’t about quick fixes or surface-level habits. It’s about real change — the kind that actually sticks.   Episode Highlights: Why clarity is often the biggest missing piece in change The myth of overnight transformation Why changing your external circumstances rarely solves the root issue How fear, avoidance, and busyness quietly block growth Why traditional behavior-change tactics (shame, guilt, fear) don’t create lasting results How to create an internal environment that supports sustainable change   Quick Win: Start with Commitment. Ask yourself: What will be different in my life if I create the change I want? Why is that important to me? Then choose one small, simple creative act you can commit to daily — something realistic enough to do even on your hardest days. Small and consistent beats intense and unsustainable.   For additional info, check out our show notes page: Episode 58: Ingredients for Change   Ready for More: Get your free assessment: The Clarity Compass - find out what’s blocking your clarity and take steps to move past it!
