The Fear of God: A Horror Movie Podcast

Faith and the Horror genre may seem to be opposites, but every week Reed and Nathan put them in dialogue together. Join us for conversations about the things that haunt us and the things that heal us, explorations at the intersection between faith and fear, where we examine what scares us, in order to find what saves us.

So I was introduced to this pod cast by one of the Quarterly queens, *shout out to Asia* and I have been loving this! I love the deeper conversations for a genre that I overlooked for many years. I personally loved the episodes on Jaws, John Carpenter's’ The Thing, and Salem’s Lot. Keep bringing on the spooky!!

I’ve been listening to this podcast for a very long time I can’t believe I haven’t written a review before now! But Nathan and Reed do incredible work week in and week out.I don’t have to have seen every movie or show that they’re talking about to connect to the themes and banter. In fact, usually I want to go and watch the things they’ve been talking about because they have given me such a great perspective on it! I wish all Christian theological conversation was this rich and lively and fun. I’m so thankful for the work these guys are doing in the world! Listen to this podcast!
Long time friend, first time listener

Have known and been friends with Reed since 8th or 9th grade. Though I was really a bad friend in those early days, Reed has always extended a great deal of grace in my direction. I think the world of him and his family and love the show! Technically I am an acquaintance of Nathan as well though we weren’t really friends Per se, just weren’t around each other much. I’m new listener , and love to listen to the show on the long commute back home from work or while grading papers. I love the connection to faith and it’s interlacing into the world we live in. Much Love!
One of my favorite Podcast ever

The two host have a great friendship that bleeds through into their philosphical and theological converstations inspired by horror movies. My only desire is that is there's ever a Muppets Christmas Carol remake, Reed and Nathan be cast as Marley and Marley
Great show, Bad friends

Insightful, powerful, and incredibly stimulating podcast. I love hearing the themes they go into and these guys will often make you want to go back and give a film a second look with a fresh perspective. However, Reed and Nathan are clearly terrible friends. One of them always seems to be placing themselves in a compromising situation at the start of the episode, and the other one is way too nonchalant about their whereabouts. Luckily, Reed usually ends up being ok. Give it a listen!
Genuinely interesting

This is a really fun podcast that also has very thoughtful and interesting discussions. One of my favorites.
You don't have to be a fan of horror films or a Christian to enjoy this!

I've become a casual listener of FoG. I tend to cherry-pick their collection based on films I've seen. I’m not a fan of the horror genre usually, but I tend to check out films with horror traits that transcend genre (e.g. "Parasite") and the occasional genre flick that gets the art house treatment (e.g. "Midsommar"). These are the type the movie that inspires some DEEP conversation. It's a joy to listen to Reed & Nate slowly peel away a movie's many layers. Plus, their shared love of film and pop culture is so infectious that it's impossible to not be swept up in it. And though I don’t identify as Christian, I still always appreciate the theological, philosophical, and intellectual bent of the deeper discussion that usually occurs in the second hour of each podcast. "Midsommar" sat with me like a gall stone since I watched it and Nate and Reed's analysis of it really helped me process the film. Cannot recommend enough!
