Chapter 38 - I Slept On The Horse [2023 Wrapped]

    Author's Notes:
We’re wrapping up season 5 of The Fic List with a 2023 Wrapped! ...At least, that was the plan, but as these things tend to go, we…uh…got a bit sidetracked. Instead, join us for a spirited (and slightly unhinged) retrospective in which we talk about everything from the strikes to John Stamos puking up his guts. It was certainly a year to remember.

Appendix 2: Never Designed to Be Contained [Goncharov]

    Summary:
As of the recording of this episode (September 2023), both the WGA (Writer’s Guild of America) and SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actor’s Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) remain on strike. Full of so-so jokes, rambling tangents, AND an exciting announcement - this episode of The Fic List will have you on the edge of your seat! (or keep you moderately entertained!)

Appendix 1: Something Different [WGA/SAG-AFTRA Strike]

Appendix 1: Something Different [WGA/SAG-AFTRA Strike]

Summary: And now for something… a little different.

As you may know, both the WGA (Writer’s Guild of America) and SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actor’s Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) are currently on strike (August 2023), which is having a wide range of effects on film, TV, theater, and fandom. In this episode, we are pivoting from our usual content to talk about the strikes - why we care, why you should, too, and how we can all be in solidarity with the folks on the picket lines. Also, there are a LOT of tangents - Mothman squishables and Great White Sharks, anyone?

Amazing and fantastic!

I found this pod on tiktok and OMG I am ever so happy that I did. I have been reading (and sometimes writing) fanfiction since I was 14 and 14 years later, I’m still doing it. So to hear Erin and Alan review fanfiction on a pod and to have it be an actual discussion on good fanfiction is a breath of fresh air! I binged this pod in like 3 days and am loving everything so much. I adore this pod so much and can’t wait to hear what is next!

I wish I could kudos this pod!!!

So fun and cozy! Feels like I’m discussing fic with friends :). Also, I’ve never watched The Magicians, and now I don’t have to!

10/10 Highly Recommend

Alan and Erin have great chemistry as co-hosts! Their discussions about fanfiction and fandom is so authetic and respectful, you can clearly tell they come from this world. While some podcasts are about making fun of the really bizarre fics out there, Alan and Erin are here to praise fanfic and talk about why people love it so much and why it's so popular. Even when they're talking about a fandom I'm not in, they explain it in a way that's very accessible. And it's also a great source for new fics to read! Definitely give it a listen for all you fic readers out there!
