Neither Islam Makhachev and Ian Garry will likely run away with this. Both fighters have paths to victory that can present clear problems for the other fighter. Ian Garry’s approach will likely be to fight a good amount of this fight as a southpaw, taking away his big weapons. But having a set strategy is a fool’s errand. Ian Garry will have to put forth a “formless” game that adapts to whatever Islam Makhachev brings to the table. The counters to what Ian Garry bring to the table will be what’s most interesting for Makhachev. Fighting Dustin Poirier, we can see that Islam Makhachev can handle himself versus a southpaw. But Islam Makhachev would also do well to take away the weapons Ian Garry wants to put forth, forcing him to become readable. Legacy, that’s what is on the line. Islam Makhachev has established his legacy but this win would put him among the giants: Jon Jones, Georges St-Pierre, and Demetrious Johnson. Trading wins, top tier fights, and making it impossible for new contenders to break through, lightweight seemed stagnant. Ilia Topuria broke through only to be put back in his place by Justin Gaethje. Quillan Salkilld took on Mateusz Gamrot in one of those breakthrough fights and it was a sight to behold. Now we have a new contender. Quillan Salkilld joins Arman Tsarukyan and Paddy Pimblett as the next wave of 155ers that will be the ones to finally break through. Quillan Salkilld's performance was spectacular. He took on Mateusz Gamrot in his own world and shined beautifully. Mateusz Gamrot is a scrambly grappler though and though. Taking him out in the first round was a major feather in the hat of Quillan Salkilld. Having answers for everything Mateusz Gamrot presented was impeccable. Quillan Salkilld was in the waters but it was him who was the shark.The future is bright for Quillan Salkilld. He has nothing but bangers ahead. Max Holloway, Rafael Fiziev, Usman Nurmagomedov, the possibilities are legitimately endless. Should he fight up, down, or even in the rankings, whoever gets Quillan Salkilld next has their task cut out for them. Expanding to a new market is not easy. But with Uros Medic's win, the UFC and TKO proved the concept and executed it perfectly. Now, the UFC will have to return, except this time with a better talent than just geography fighters.Uros Medic was the man of the evening. He knocked out Daniel Rodriguez in only 30 seconds and the roof came off the building. In that short time, Uros Medic saw his stock skyrocket. Now the winner and with all eyes on him, the sky's the limit with the kind of power he possesses. It can be Islam Makhachev himself, Uros Medic will have a shot to knock ANYONE out. Navajo Stirling was the biggest winner on the night. He knocked out Jan Blachowicz in a round. The former champion, tough as nails, Jan Blachowicz. But that might be a danger to him. Jumping so far up the rankings so fast is a danger. He is now in the midst of very difficult fighters. Navajo Stirling will have to prove that he's an elite fighter and he will certainly get the opportunity to do so. Aleksandar Rakic, on the other hand, is insanely frustrating. He took on a weathered Marcin Tybura and really dropped the ball. He let Marcin Tybura back in the fight when he was in complete control. But that's the story of Aleksandar Rakic.
