E325 - Charles Oliveira proves everyone wrong (even me)

Charles Oliveira dominated Max Holloway at UFC 326. Now we have to admit defeat and talk about how "do Bronx" proved everyone wrong. 🎞️Check out Fight Finders, my docuseries! Many, myself included, thought this fight was going to be insanely difficult for him, as are most fights with Max Holloway. Instead, Oliveira dominated and proved that he's still got a lot left in the tank. He left Max Holloway wondering what was happening to him. This was something nobody has ever done to the former featherweight champion. Now Charles Oliveira has so much lined up for him. There's Conor McGregor, Arman Tsarukyan, Benoit Saint-Denis and perhaps even an Ilia Topuria rematch. Caio Borralho beat Reinier de Ridder to cap off the middleweight tournament that meant nothing. After his loss to Nassourdine Imavov, Caio Borralho improved by going first, going often and leading the charge against Reinier de Ridder. Reinier de Ridder was too basic in his approach and didn't have a plan B to do anything that Borralho didn't want him to do.  Raul Rosas Jr also had a rankings berthing performance. He defeated Rob Font. But the win was more Rob Font not being good than it was Raul Rosas was bad. Font fought terribly, over extending and giving up the takedown to the wrestling-heavy Raul Rosas. Chiwiws didn't make an appearance but Raul Rosas showed he's getting better. #charlesoliveira #oliveiravsholloway #mmapodcast

E324 - "Lone’er Kavanagh is the new breed" - UFC Mexico reaction

What do you know, we called it. Lone'er Kavanagh went into Mexico City, Brandon Moreno's back yard, and took home a decisive win. What is next for England's standout? 🎞️Check out Fight Finders, my docuseries! Out is Brandon Moreno and Alexandre Pantoja. In is Lone'er Kavanagh and Joshua Van. The new era of 125 is one that's younger. Lone'er Kavanagh's win over Brandon Moreno was a perfect example of that. He was calm, controlled, and despite the odds being against him, on point all night. Lone'er Kavanagh beat Brandon Moreno at his own game. Moreno was too content to striker with the younger, faster 26 year old. He got picked apart with his wild swinging punches and at the end of the day, suffered a defeat because of it. The change in opponents did not do Brandon Moreno any favors either. He wasn't able to wrestle offensively to his liking and it let Kavanagh back into the fight. Now the eyes are pointed forward. Where does Lone'er Kavanagh sit come Tuesday when the new UFC rankings come out. There are options: Manel Kape, Kyoji Horiguchi, Alexandre Pantoja, Brandon Royval. Whoever Lone'er Kavanagh fights next, it will be one step closer to a title shot.

E323 - Sean Strickland was always going to win

Sean Strickland defied all odds and knocked out Anthony Hernandez proving that, despite how he talks and fights, he's still a top tier middleweight. 🎞️Check out Fight Finders, my docuseries! Episode 008 is out now: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLx7TZlIVGhDZ_TpnOtVEVSXmkpr_ViExz&si=J8DZ9G6a-RvTaMOv 🥊 Boxing channel: Youtube.com/@UCFN50W4bPM2xdW78XLyv2fQ  📰 Substack: fightlibrary.substack.com Chapters: 0:00 Why Sean Strickland beat Anthony Hernandez 5:45 Sean Strickland is so frustrating to fight 8:22 Sean Strickland vs Khamzat Chimaev The plan was simple: If Sean Strickland can get the jab going early, he can slow down the snowball effect-style that Anthony Hernandez uses. That's exactly what happened. Fluffy had no way of getting inside and getting to a clinch. And when he did, he lacked the ability to finish the takedown there. Sean Strickland used this to his advantage and kept doing what he always does. It's that jab and the teep that make Sean Strickland so frustrating to fight. He's had success against great fighters, like Israel Adesanya, but also laid some stinkers (Alex Pereira, Kamaru Usman). Strickland's frustrating style has carried him far and brought him the title. This is why he's been successful. He knows what he does and sticks to it. There's no getting too fancy. There's hardly any deviation. Just discipline to what got him to the dance. That brings us to the big question: Khamzat Chimaev. Chimaev looks indomitable. Invincible even. Does Sean Strickland really have what it takes to dethrone the Chechen champion? We don't personally think so. Then again, we thought Anthony Hernandez and Israel Adesanya would beat him too and look how that turned out. There's no real point in saying "Strickland loses to Chimaev, don't even book the fight." We have to lock them in the cage and find out for ourselves.

E322 - People Are Underestimating Sean Strickland Again

Sean Strickland seems like he's doomed against Anthony Hernandez. But there is more than meets the eye when it comes to this fight. Today we sit down with Vince Morales, the UFC bantamweight contender, to discuss the main event of UFC Houston.🎞️Check out Fight Finders, my docuseries! For a good reason. But Sean Strickland is unlike any other fighter in the UFC's middleweight division. Vince Morales and Blaine Henry talk about the main event, approaches to how the fight should go down, and what makes this fight interesting.Sean Strickland's tools to stifle the pressure of Fluffy are effective, that we already know. We saw Kevin Holland use push kicks to slow down Anthony Hernandez early on and, while that fight was short, Strickland can use those same weapons to extend the fight and work his game. Should he be able to hurt Anthony Hernandez coming forward, the pressure will subside. That said, we still lean Anthony Hernandez. Sean Strickland is on his way out and Fluffy is on the way up. His pressure is suffocating and if he can deal with the two weapons from Sean Strickland that give him trouble, he can have a standout performance. Anthony Hernandez vs Khamzat Chimaev is the most interesting fight in the division. Maybe it's just wishful thinking.#stricklandfluffy #ufchouston #seanstricklandvsfluffyhernandez

E331 - “Diego Lopes is just not good enough” | UFC 325 reaction

Diego Lopes was dominated again by Alexander Volkanovski. The fight was one sided and you could have put the first fight on and nobody would have known the difference. 🎞️Check out Fight Finders, my docuseries! The fight was not as much of a challenge as the first fight and old man Volkanovski did the job as he always does. Between the first and second fight, Diego Lopes did not get good enough. He struggled to find meaningful offense against Alexander Volkanovski and now he's in the back of the line. But we have to have a conversation about how good Alexander Volkanovski is in the legacy of the sport.  The co-main event of UFC 325 was a Benoit Saint-Denis win over hometown favorite Dan Hooker. Dan Hooker had a good plan at the start but in the end, it didn't even matter. Benoit Saint-Denis struggled with the initial gameplan of Dan Hooker but he overcame the body kicks and got Dan Hooker to the ground. From there, it was only a formality. Mauricio Ruffy also had a great finish after some adjustments against Rafael Fiziev. Fiziev is a tough fighter for anyone and Mauricio Ruffy had a hard task in front of him. Ruffy was pushed to the fence and was incredibly uncomfortable. But once he settled in with the pressure from Rafael Fiziev, he knocked out the Muay Thai sensation and notched his career best win.

Both Luke Thomas and Blaine Henry do not agree. Diego Lopes showed that he's a very good fighter and that he can compete with the best. While we're both cold on Diego Lopes rematching, the fight itself isn't a bad one at all. With Alexander Volkanovski aging and the precedent set by Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett last weekend, UFC 325 has a main event primed for action.Beating Jean Silva had a bunch to do with the title shot for Diego Lopes. Jean Silva was promised a title shot if he won. Instead, he was finished by the Brazilian title contender. Now Diego Lopes gets the chance at redemption against Alexander Volkanovski. Not much seems like it changed for Diego Lopes. Watching him versus Alexander Volkanovski and, subsequently Jean Silva, doesn't show much change. Luke Thomas points out that Alexander Volkanovski is a completely different fighter from Jean Silva as well. We will find out what happens in a few short days at UFC 325!

E329 - Justin Gaethje is a different type of fighter - Blaine Henry reacts to UFC 324

Justin Gaethje reclaimed the interim lightweight title at UFC 324 as he battered Paddy Pimblett to start the Paramount era. Chapters: 0:00 Justin Gaethje vs Paddy Pimblett 14:04 Sean O'Malley vs Song Yadong 19:37 Jean Silva vs Arnold Allen 24:15 Umar Nurmagomedov vs Deiveson Figueiredo Justin Gaethje got that dog in him. He dared Paddy Pimbett to do something different, to be tough. While Paddy Pimblett was tough, it wasn't tough enough. Justin Gaethje beat Pimblett from pillar to post. He claimed the interim title and presumably a date with Ilia Topuria for the undisputed title. Paddy Pimblett, while not elite, showed that he is still a great fighter at UFC 324. He just ran into legacy, one that couldn't be denied. Sean O'Malley bounced back from his back to back losses to Merab Dvalishvili as well. He fought Song Yadong at UFC 324 and was simply a step ahead the entire time. To beat a cerebral fighter like Sean O'Malley, Song Yadong needed more than one approach. Unlike Justin Gaethje, he couldn't hammer his way home to such a tactician. Sean O'Malley is likely rematching Petr Yan now and the bantamweight division churns on. Jean Silva bounced back from his loss to Diego Lopes as well. He beat a tough Arnold Allen soundly and showed the world that he's among the best featherweights in the world. Like Song Yadong, Arnold Allen couldn't change gears, do something different. That allowed Jean Silva back into a fight he was losing after the first round. Now Jean Silva is back and he's shown that the title is still within his grasps after his win at UFC 324. This card provided lesson after lesson. Umar Nurmagomedov was seen as another potential contender to Petr Yan. He was to fight Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 324. While the cage was locked behind both men, one would struggle to call it "fighting." The fight was boring to say the least. Umar Nurmagomedov was content to coast and Deiveson Figueiredo acted like he didn't know he was supposed to try.

E328 - Nobody Believes in Paddy Pimblett (Yet)

Paddy Pimblett has the most to win at UFC 324. He's facing off with Justin Gaethje and life can either be great or miserable for Paddy Pimblett. 🎞️Check out Fight Finders, my docuseries! Episode 006 is out now: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLx7TZlIVGhDZ_TpnOtVEVSXmkpr_ViExz&si=J8DZ9G6a-RvTaMOv 📰 Newsletter: fightlibrary.substack.com 👾 Discord: https://discord.gg/dXRPzMZuyP Chapters: 0:00 Paddy Pimblett doesn't deserve the title shot 1:25 Paddy Pimblet vs Justin Gaethje initial thoughts 4:33 Has Paddy Pimblett been tested? 12:05 Justin Gaethje aging out of competition 19:56 Pick em: Paddy Pimbett or Justin Gaethje Let's all be real. Arman Tsarukyan and Ilia Topuria should be fighting this weekend. They're clearly the best two lightweights in the world. Justin Gaethje has a case to be made. But Paddy Pimblett doesn't deserve the title shot he's been granted. But he will look to seize the opportunity this weekend as he tries to claim the interim lightweight title. The fight with Justin Gaethje is very nuanced. On paper, Justin Gaethje should maul Paddy Pimblett. The UK does everything wrong for Gaethje to exploit. But Justin Gaethje hasn't looked great lately. He's 37, on the tail end of his career. This fight is compelling not because it's the two lightweights in the world. In fact it is compelling in spite of that. UFC 324's main event is compelling because of the nuances like Paddy Pimblett's size, Justin Gaethje's age, and the arrival to Paramount for the UFC. Perhaps the biggest question is that of Paddy Pimblett's resume. He's beat great names on paper: Bobby Green, Tony Ferguson, Michael Chandler. But the caveat is that they're all old, out of their own primes. Justin Gaethje is kind of that, too, but not seen the same. Paddy Pimblett is still seen to be taking his biggest test at UFC 324. So make your pick. Who wins at UFC 324? Does Paddy Pimblett continue his unlikely rise or will Justin Gaethje get one more crack at undisputed UFC gold? #ufc324preview #paddyjustin #gaethjepaddy
