Mother Awakened By Intruders: Diamonds Ford’s Story, with Special Guest & Advocate, Danielle Chanzes

On Sept 28th, 2020, Diamonds Ford was abruptly awakened from her sleep upon hearing shattering glass from her bedroom window. She couldn’t see anyone and heard no law enforcement announcement. In fear for her life, she fired shots at who she believed to be an unlawful intruder and was met with returned fire. Fortunately, the Detective who was shot in the crossfire had on protective gear and is recovering and luckily Ms. Ford was uninjured. The return fire caused Ms. Ford and her fiancé to flee to the bathroom for sanctuary, where she called 911 seeking the aid of JSO from the perceived home Invader. Listen to the 911 call: 1. She’s genuinely afraid for her life and 2. Once JSO announces themselves and she hears them she is obviously and genuinely astonished. Listen for yourself (the full 911 call is in this episode). Ms. Ford was arrested and has been charged with the Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer and Armed Possession of Marijuana and is facing Life in Prison. According to the Arrest report there were nearly 30 (DEA and SWAT) officers there yet none, NOT 1, had on Body Cameras while executing a HIGH RISK WARRANT.  With these types of high risk warrants, too often you end up 1 of 2 ways: losing your life like Breanna Taylor or like Diamonds Ford facing life in prison. The tactics used in these types of warrants should be outlawed, alternatively it should at a minimum be mandated that when law enforcement are executing high risk warrants every participant be required to wear a body camera. How To Do Yoga With Your Kids with Nubia Henderson

Two years deep in a global pandemic, the whole family could really use some yoga right now. Family yoga games are a fun way to spend meaningful time together, strengthen family bonds, and pour confidence and peace in one another.  In this episode, I chat with Nubia Henderson, founder of Kids Jamm. We talk about what kids yoga look like, how to engage children in the practice, and give tips on getting started with doing yoga with your family today. More about our guest, Nubia Henderson | As a core principle, Nubia teaches that self-love is the foundation for all positive change in our relationships, especially within ourselves and our communities. Activating this principle, she creates spaces for family yoga and mindfulness practice in underserved communities. After the birth of her daughter Nubia was really challenged to live her yoga and returned to her roots of West African dance, Kundalini yoga and meditation. Her journey of self-love and passion for children led her to create kids jamm, signature child-centered classes combining music and movement with prescriptive techniques and strategies for behavior management for ADD+ADHD, effective parent-child communication and identifying emotional triggers. Her goal is for families to understand the principles of yoga and use the tools in their daily lives. By applying an arts-integrated approach to sharing the tools of yoga and mindfulness, Nubia encourages her students to “live what you love, from the inside out.” A graduate of Howard University, Nubia holds a 200-hour yoga and Y.O.G.A for Youth certification Connect with Nubia on her website here Follow Nubia on Instagram here   Recommended Books for Kids Yoga: Mindful Moves By Nicole Cardoza  Kid-Friendly Yoga and Peaceful Activities for a Happy, Healthy You Our Family Is Doing Yoga by Sonjoria Sydnor I am Enough by Grace Beyers (a book of affirmations) Yoga for Children | 200+ Yoga Poses, Breathing Exercises, and Meditations for Healthier, Happier, More Resilient Children By Lisa Flynn, E-RYT, RCYT Yoga Pretzels by Tara Guber and Leah Kalish | 50 Fun Yoga Activities for Kids and Grownups Host of The Flow Up is Jerrell Simpson, Yoga and Reiki Practitioner, Tarot Reader, wife and mom of 3.
