    My Story: The Finale

TRIGGER WARNING: We share the raw truth that can show up in our lives and how suicidal ideations can so easily become overwhelming in the latter part of this story. The scariest problems are often the quiet ones, the ones that look like a normal life from the outside and feel like you are drowning on the inside. Heather and Sean close out the final chapter of their story with the kind of honesty that makes you sit up straight: anger at God, family stress, a house with no furniture, COVID hitting at the worst time, and the ongoing work of building a blended family where everyone feels safe, seen, and loved. Together, they unpack what it really means to live through struggle rather than just survive it, and how obedience, connection, and faith can lead to healing in ways we never expect. This episode isn’t about having it all figured out. It’s about the testimony found in the middle of the mess and the realization that freedom isn’t something you arrive at, but something you choose every single day. If you’ve ever questioned your path, wrestled with your faith, or wondered if anything good could come from what you’ve been through, this conversation is an invitation to see your story differently. What if everything you’ve walked through is not the end of your story, but the very thing leading you into your freedom? ═════════════════════════════════════════════════════ 🌎 The Risky Path Website 📖 Share Your Story with Us ❓Got a Question? My Story: Part 8 with Sean Davis

This episode is the moment where everything shifts.  For the first time, Sean joins me to help tell the next part of our story, because this chapter could not be told without him. What begins as a celebration of love, family, and finally building something that was truly ours quickly turns into one of the most unexpected and life-altering turns we have ever faced. In this conversation, we share the beauty of choosing to adopt Ana as an adult and what it meant to create a family not just by circumstance, but by intention. We reflect on the season of finally having our home, our space, and each other after years of pouring into everyone else. But just as we reached what felt like a long-awaited sense of peace, everything changed. Sean shares the moment he felt called to move, the urgency behind it, and the tension it created between us as I wrestled with letting go of the very life we had just built. What follows is a story of obedience, resistance, loss, and trust. From selling everything and leaving our home behind to arriving in a new place only to face immediate grief and doubt, this episode holds the raw reality of what it looks like to follow a path you do not fully understand. It is about the stretch that comes with growth, the pain that can accompany purpose, and the quiet faith it takes to keep going anyway. If you have ever felt like your life was being uprooted just as things were finally starting to feel right, I hope this episode reminds you that sometimes the breaking is part of the becoming. Even in the uncertainty, you are still being led somewhere meaningful. ═════════════════════════════════════════════════════ 🌎 The Risky Path Website 📖 Share Your Story with Us ❓Got a Question? My Story: Part 7

This episode brings both the sweetness of connection and the weight of life’s unexpected turns as I step into Part 7 of my story and begin to close this chapter of the journey.  What started as a season of freedom, travel, and finally having space to just be with Sean quickly became a deeper invitation inward. For the first time, I had the room to focus on myself, to begin intentional healing, and to uncover the parts of me that had been quietly waiting for attention. In this episode, I share the beauty of our time in Florida, the strengthening of our relationship, and the beginning of my personal commitment to inner work through practices like morning pages and creative exploration. But woven into that growth is also one of the most terrifying moments of my life as a mother, when I received the call that Austin had been in a life-threatening accident. What followed was a long road of recovery, a powerful shift in his life, and ultimately the unexpected path that led him into the military. As I navigated the emotional weight of almost losing him and then learning to let him go, I was also coming face-to-face with my own unresolved pain. Through writing, reflection, and a deeply personal creative experience, I found a level of healing I had carried for over 20 years. This episode is about the tension between holding on and letting go, about the way our children grow us, and about discovering purpose in the midst of change. If you’ve ever found yourself in a season where everything feels like it’s shifting at once, I hope this reminds you that even there, healing is happening and freedom is still within reach. ═════════════════════════════════════════════════════ 🌎 The Risky Path Website 📖 Share Your Story with Us ❓Got a Question? My Story: Part 6

This episode holds both the weight of survival and the beauty of breakthrough as I step into Part 6 of my story and share the health battle that quietly ran beneath so many years of my life. What looked like anxiety and scattered symptoms was actually something much deeper, and it led me through years of fear, doctor visits, painful treatments, and moments where I truly did not know what would happen next. In this episode, I walk through my long journey with chronic iron deficiency, the terrifying reactions to treatments that were meant to help me, and the emotional toll of living in a body that felt unpredictable and unsafe.  But woven into that struggle is also a powerful story of healing, faith, and what I can only describe as a miracle. I share the deeply personal moments happening within my family during this time, from Austin’s adoption and the beauty of becoming a family, to the heartbreak of loss when relationships could not be sustained. This is a story about endurance, about learning that you cannot force change in others, and about what it means to keep choosing love and faith even when life feels uncertain. If you have ever carried something heavy in silence while still showing up for everyone around you, I hope this episode reminds you that healing can happen, that freedom is still available to you, and that your story is not over yet. ═════════════════════════════════════════════════════ 🌎 The Risky Path Website 📖 Share Your Story with Us ❓Got a Question? My Story: Part 5

This week’s episode is one of the most personal chapters of my story that I have ever shared. It is the part of my life where everything truly began to change. After years of chaos, broken relationships, trauma, and survival, I met the man who would become my husband. What followed was not some perfect fairy tale. It was something deeper, more complicated, and far more meaningful. It was the beginning of a real love story that would be shaped through faith, struggle, healing, and the slow work of transformation. In this episode, I share the beginning of my life with Sean. From the very first moment we met, there was something undeniable between us. It was one of those rare moments in life where your intuition speaks so clearly that you cannot ignore it. I knew almost instantly that he would be the man I would marry. But what unfolded after that was not easy. Two people carrying deep wounds from their pasts suddenly found themselves building a life together, and those wounds did not disappear overnight. Instead, they collided, forcing us to confront our own pain, our own patterns, and the ways we had learned to survive. I talk about the early years of our marriage and how difficult they were as we tried to navigate our relationship while both of us were still healing. I share the moment where I had to confront my own need for control and the powerful experience where God made it clear that I needed to step out of the way and let Him do the work I was trying so hard to force. It was a turning point that shifted how I approached my marriage, my faith, and my own healing. You will also hear about the seasons where our lives were stretched in ways we never expected. At one point, our home grew into a household of eleven people as we stepped in to help family members who needed support. Those years were intense, exhausting, and often overwhelming, but they also became the place where Sean and I learned what it truly meant to stand united together. Instead of breaking us apart, the pressure began to reshape our relationship. My hope in sharing this part of my story is that it reminds you that change is possible. No matter what your past looks like, no matter how messy or complicated your story may feel, redemption and transformation are always within reach. Freedom is not something reserved for a few lucky people. It is something that is available to all of us. This chapter of the story continues next week, so if you want to hear what happens next, come back and join me for the next episode. ═════════════════════════════════════════════════════ 🌎 The Risky Path Website 📖 Share Your Story with Us ❓Got a Question? 6. My Story: Part 4

    My Story: Part 4

Some chapters don’t slowly unravel; they combust. In this continuation of her story, Heather walks us into the rooms where survival dictated every decision: a courtroom where she is named the non-custodial parent, a relationship built on alcohol and chaos, and a Valentine’s Day confrontation that ends with the words, “You have no monetary value,” and a line she will never uncross. The details are unfiltered. Drunken rages, punched walls, holidays hijacked by betrayal, and the quiet humiliation of trying to hold a family together while losing pieces of herself. What follows is not a dramatic rescue. It’s a woman packing in the dark, leaving the keys behind, and choosing to walk away without knowing where she’ll land. Rock bottom arrives with a smell she can’t ignore. The rental she moves into, filthy and overwhelmed with the aftermath of neglect, becomes a physical mirror of the life she has been living. Heather scrubs floors on her hands and knees, repaints walls, and rebuilds a home from the inside out while finishing hair school, paying child support, and learning how to stand on her own two feet for the first time. Just as stability begins to take root, a lingering illness turns into a cancer scare. Blood counts plummet. Fear moves in. And alongside her mother, she does what healing often requires: she pushes for answers. The diagnosis—parvovirus reactivation triggering aplastic anemia becomes proof that advocacy is strength, and that resilience isn’t loud; it’s steady. Then something unexpected happens. A late-night scroll, a playful wink on an old dating site, and a string of 4 a.m. emails filled with honesty instead of performance. A phone call full of laughter. A sunrise at the boardwalk. A hug in a driveway that feels like home in a way nothing else ever has. Not a rescue. Not a fairy tale. A partnership built on the woman she fought to become. This episode threads one truth through every high and low: freedom isn’t a single decision. It’s a daily practice. It’s walking out when shame says stay. It’s rebuilding when the mess feels overwhelming. It’s trusting that even after four marriages, heartbreak, illness, and loss, you are still worthy of safe love and a steady life. If parts of your story still feel too heavy to speak aloud, let this one sit beside you. Share it with someone who needs courage. Leave a review of the moment that stayed with you. Your words might be the reminder someone else is waiting for. ═════════════════════════════════════════════════════ 🌎 The Risky Path Website 📖 Share Your Story with Us ❓Got a Question? My Story: Part 3

The story opens on a razor’s edge. Some losses don’t happen once. They happen twice. And the second time, it can feel like it breaks something deeper. In this chapter of my story, I share what happened after choosing open adoption. Courtrooms, custody battles, another goodbye, and the unraveling that followed. This is about grief in the body, postpartum fear, unstable ground, and the slow work of rebuilding when everything keeps collapsing through every pivot.  Heather protects the truth, even under pressure to distort it. She names what many never say out loud: systems can grind down the honest, healing can lag behind logistics, and freedom often starts long before circumstances look free. If you’ve ever wondered how to stand when the floor keeps shifting, this chapter offers hard-won insight, quiet courage, and the reminder Heather keeps returning to: freedom is the advantage you already own.  If this story moved you, share it with a friend, follow the show, and leave a review so others can find their way here.
