    37. Stay Here: Suicide Prevention, Mental Health, and Faith with Jacob Coyne

There is often uncertainty in faith communities about how to talk about mental health—how to pray when someone is suicidal, whether medication is okay, and other questions many quietly wrestle with. In this episode of The Giving Experience Podcast, Chad Hauer and Josh Powell sit down with Jacob Coyne for an honest conversation about suicide prevention, mental health, and faith. Every day in America, more than 1,500 high school students attempt suicide. Every 40 seconds, someone dies. Globally, over 800,000 lives are lost each year—making suicide the second leading cause of death among young people. Jacob shares his journey as a pastor and public faith leader, reflecting on the responsibility of influence, the tension between faith and visibility, and the real questions believers face when suffering doesn’t have simple answers. The conversation centers on Stay Here, a suicide-prevention initiative focused on presence, conversation, and access to help. In partnership with the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026, the initiative aims to distribute one million high-tech wristbands that connect people to critical mental health resources. This episode is a call to speak clearly, stay present, and take mental health seriously—especially within the church.
