    When my grandmother died, people knew exactly what to say. When my brother died two months ago, some of them didn't say anything at all. In this episode, I reflect on something I've noticed but rarely hear named out loud: not all grief gets met the same way. Some losses come with a script — expected, explainable, safe to talk about. Others don't, and the silence that follows can feel like a second loss on top of the first. I share what I've come to believe about why people go quiet, the difference between toxic positivity and tragic optimism, and what it really looks like to show up when someone else's grief feels too big to fix.
